Designed on the parameters of the ancient, deadly Kaleesh General Grievous, the "Vanguard" Class Elite Combat Droid was to be the pinnacle of the entire idea of Droid Bodyguards.
Unlike it's older cousin, the IG-100 Magna Guard, the "Vanguard" Class of Combat Droid does not utilize the same weaponry or design at all. Instead, this new class of Battle Droid makes use of a single Dual Heavy Blaster Cannon, mounted on it's right arm, in addition to a expandable Force Pike and a Vibroblade Tipped Fingernails.
The Hand itself was designed to adapt itself in most circumstances, however these offensive features pail in comparison to the droids main intent. Mounted on the Body Guards Right Arm lays an expandable and adaptable Cortois Reinforced Durasteel Shield designed to withstand both Lightsabers and Explosions alike.
Yet, as always, these capabilities overshadowed the weakness of what the Techno Union claimed to be the perfect bodyguard. Two of these fatal flaws were the fact that the Droid was not designed with any countermeasures to Sonic or Ion weapons. Another, the possibility of the droid being in a dangerous environment. This was generally ignored, as were the others.
But, like always within the Techno Union, a cheap and effective droid had been produced. And to them, thier job was accomplished.
