DESCRIPTION |
Despite its naming convention, the Belarus-class is, in fact, a Heavy Frigate rather than any form of Cruiser. Its design and purpose was that of expanding upon and providing the Galactic Alliance with additional vessels that fell within the classification of Frigate to bolster the limited designs of these warships. As the Belarus-class was intended to serve as a main-line warship, it was designed with a heavier arsenal of armaments than what is commonly seen on Frigates of its size. However, this installation of additional armaments resulted in a decrease in its overall hangar capacity resulting in the vessel being incapable of carrying any number of squadrons of either Starfighters or Support Craft; nor is it capable of ferrying a singular smaller craft in any capacity. As a means to ensure its survivability when it came into contact with similarly sized vessels or Cruisers, the Belarus-class was designed to accomodate an increase in its defensive capabilities. This allows it to stand toe-to-toe with heavier warships, and often, come out on top or at the very least, able to limp away from the fray. Unfortunately, due to the majority of its weapons focused in a forward firing arc, much of the aft vector of the vessel is lightly protected, providing an easier approach when attacking this area. Likewise, its Primary Drive System makes for a tantalizing target due to this sparse coverage; damage or destruction of these systems can potentially result in the vessel being rendered immobile. The Belarus-class provides the Galactic Alliance with an additional warhorse to be deployed in the continuing and growing conflicst that have gripped the galaxy. Though lacking the means to provide a Starfighter Escort and often requiring the assistance of a Dedicated Carrier, the vessel is more than capable of proving itself a worthy and capable warship where it counts. With these vessels deployed, the Galactic Alliance can further project their capabilities and continue to hold the line against the encroaching darkness. |
