- The Belenus utilizes 20x102 mm depleted-baradium shell casings that are augmented with ardanium increasing the shell’s strength when in the presence of radiation.
- Features a twin-six barrel Gatling gun design, created with an alloy compound of durasteel, alusteel and reinforced with a duraplast liner. This is integrated into a ball turret allowing for greater maneuverability.
- Shells are typically packed with thermite, and all shells are packed with an electromagnetic exciter disk in the rear of the shell.
- There are some shells that are packed with collapsium gas, and liquid baradium.
- There is an option to pack shells with crystadurium ball bearings that have been coated in ardanium with the idea to create more shrapnel upon impact. [Ball Bearing]
- Thermite gel along with encased conflagrine-14 may also be packed into the shells, with g-20 glop grenade components. [Incendiary]
- A neuranium-tunqstoid core sits in what is normally a thermite-packed shell, although thermite still lines the interior of the shell. This shell is then filled with whatever amount of beryllium fuel it can handle, before being capped. It is capped with a shock-buffing core to prevent the shell from shattering on impact. [APCR]
- A durasteel-tungsten cap, designed for fragmentation lined with thermite gel, and traces of conflagrine-14, and g-20 glop grenade components. This cap sits on top of a pocket filled with plasma fuel capsulettes, lined with a nergon-14 and rhydonium plasmatic gel. [SAPHEI]
- Fire-link capable, built-in heuristic data processing for performance improvement.
- Single target tracking, and automated lock-on/lead system.
- Internal temperature check, automated fail-safe, and containment system.
- Range-finder and built-in range sensors, automated warning for incoming fire.
- Gauss/coil firing-mechanisms, electromagnetic rails; this is boosted by a rocket launch-like system.
- Dedicated power supply generators with an increased number of crystal chamber matrix featuring boreas and energy crystals. Includes batteries for excess power storage and access, heatsinks, fans, and built-in cooling devices to prevent the cannon from overheating.
- Recoil control management systems, internal inertial dampeners, and kinetic energy absorption systems.
- Party Favors: Wherever the Belenus is installed, it is sure to be the hit of the party. With its high rate of speed, and indeed a variety of ammunition that it can hold and carry. Freedom shall be delivered to those in need of it most.
- Easy Target: The turret is large enough for a pilot to target, thus making it crucial for the gun to have defenses from the ship it is integrated with. Even a moment without shields renders it and its gunners/pilot, dust.
- Electrifying: Due to the number of electronics running through the weapon, emp/ion weapons will render it inert, and depending on when in the firing process it is hit, this may also cause the gun to prematurely deliver freedom. Thus taking it and its gunner/pilot to meet their makers.
Ethanael Halscott thought something had been missing from his starfighters, particularly when it came to his grandmother’s beloved choice of kinetic weaponry. Hypervelocity cannons, and with that he researched weapons that had already been created and from there took to creating the R61 or Belenus. Named for a mythical goddess of Galidraan, he thought the name apt for while she was a goddess of fire.
This Belenus would be delivering freedom fire faster than any current model on the market. This is roughly 8,000 rounds per minute, yes that’s freedom coming in at more than 8,000 rounds per minute. The R61 has a twin six-barrel gatling gun that sits on a ball turret that descends from the craft. Halscott wanted to ensure that the barrel could reach targets no matter where they were, and thus it is able to turn at a full 360° horizontal traverse, and 180° vertically.
The gun, like many of its predecessors, comes with a variety of shell options. Halscott recommends what he calls, “the party mix” which simply means load in a mix of the shells and let the fireworks begin. The Belenus’ overall systems work very much like the older Primo Victorian guns, in which the barrel’s housing, in this case the ball turret, holds a lot of the information it uses. This presents a weakness as shots to the turret would render the gun inoperable, assuming there were no shield mechanisms on the ship it was integrated with. Or, other defensive measures to keep it safe.
Although it never holds a full load of ammunition; it’s not expected for a pilot to run out of ammo, as most fights do not last long enough for them to ever truly run out of ammunition. Typically dog fights are over fairly quickly, however; should there be a moment where there are no defensive mechanisms keeping the gun safe. It and its pilot will likely become dust, or stardust depending on where they fight, should the gun be hit.
