After initial acceleration by being fired from a coil launcher and clearing the barrel, the grenade is further propelled by gyrojets towards the target. When it impacts a surface that the grenade can’t kinetically penetrate as measured by the sensor or sudden deceleration by the accelerometer, the shaped charge is detonated. While this imparts significant kinetic and thermal energy into the target, these are secondary effects. Seated at the rear of the charge is a depleted baradium penetrator sabot rod that is propelled forward with the blast and into the armor, this ruptures the containment on a pellet of antimatter microseconds later which reacts on contact with matter causing an explosive reaction within the armor.
Unlike most grenades, a direct hit is required to be most effective though injury occurring from detonation of the shaped charge may occur on surrounding personnel in close proximity if not significantly armored themselves. This requires the operator to aim at the target instead of ‘grounding’ the shots or saturating the area while remaining effective. The included penetrator and antimatter charge are also massively expensive to produce and therefore prevent the large-scale production or deployment of this grenade.
