- Mandalorian Iron: With a resilient agrinium shaft core and beskar exterior, the vibrospear is an extremely durable weapon. Virtually the entire weapon can be used to parry high-energy weapons including lightsabers.
- Piercing: A beskar spearhead with a monomolecular edge powered by an ultrasonic vibration generator means that the spearhead of the vibrospear is extremely lethal. Without the generator activated, the piercing ability of the spearhead is limited somewhat, but not by much given the properties of monomlecular beskar edge.
- Reach: The extra length of the vibrospear affords it a range advantage over standard-length melee weapons.
- Long Ranges: As a melee weapon, the vibrospear quite literally falls short at long ranges.
- Penetration Constraints: Only the beskar spearhead can actually penetrate anything; the only damage the shaft can inflict is through blunt force, and its lightweight design makes that difficult to do any serious damage.
- Tight Quarters: The large size of the vibrospearmakes it not ideal in tight or enclosed situations, which may encumber the movement needed to effectively wield the weapon.
The beskad is the traditional melee weapon of a Mandalorian, the beskar counterpoint to the Force User's lightsaber. But while the plasma blade design constricts lightsaber variations somewhat, Mandalorian smiths have been free to experiment with a wide variety of design. Spears are hardly a new innovation in warfare, and their use dates back to the pre-Mandalorian Taung. Over the thousands of years, Mandalorian smiths refined their designs, first to include beskar in the construction of the weapon, and then implementing ultrasonic vibration generators in the spearhead to create a vibroweapon. Thus, the besragr was born.
As warfare has evolved through the galaxy, vibrospears in general have fallen out of fashion with most Mandalorian warriors. The knife or sword, more nimble and easier to master, are preferred by most Mandalorians when resorting to a melee weapon. But while the vibrospear seems at first to be a cruder weapon, its simple design hides an elegance to its use and a lethality by those who master it.
As a melee weapon, the vibrospear does fall short at any long-range engagements, as is to be expected, and its large size makes it unwieldy in cramped quarters. The surface area of the besragr that can penetrate is extremely small too, about the same as a small knife's; this is the one major weakness it has when compared to a beskad.
The main advantage that the vibrospear affords its user is its length. Much longer than any beskad or lightsaber, with a telescopic shaft that can increase that length if necessary, a Mandalorian properly trained with a besragr can keep their opponent out of reach, swiftly piercing and making devastating cuts before their opponent can get close enough to retaliate. The shaft can also be used to parry an opponents weapon, and this is much in part due to the sheaf of beskar that wraps around the weapon's agrinium core, able to deflect virtually any type of weapon. The spearhead is also extremely lethal, as one would expect from a beskar monomolecular edge powered by an ultrasonic vibration generator.
It is a weapon type that is harder to master than a sword, but those that do will find themselves wielding an extremely deadly weapon that gives them a distinct advantage over other melee fighters. The besragr is not a weapon to be discounted, and many a Mandalorian will fight their way to glory with a besragr in their hands.
