Biologically engineered droids?

So I was looking and reading a book thing about robots and the future of robots. One of the concepts it put forward was the creation of droids made from biological material like muscle tissue used for servos, neurological bits for wiring and the like. This leads me to the question:

Would biologically made and engineered droids be a thing?

To me it sounds a lot like the Vong tech, but would it not be "Star Wars" because these would be droids instead of animals for the tech? Just curious, it sounded like a cool-ish idea I was considering possibly empementing in the future. Cheers, and have a cookie!

HRD. Human Replica Droid. It's as close to 100% synthetic organic as I've ever seen. Though, I hear they still show up in metal detectors. Lulz. :p

Wha? On what world does that make sense. I know I'm not a biology major but that is.... Weird.

Depends on the HRD and how they are made. The "Biodroids" in the crucible are implied to be the start of a new series of HRDs.
