An expansion on the previous armor worn by the Blackblade Guard paramilitary army, the armor has gone through several aesthetic and functional designs before finally reaching this current incarnation. The armor features flexible durasteel plates overlaying a tri-weave bodysuit that incorporates a MR-liquid based armor layer between two titanium-dipped fiber meshes that hardens upon kinetic impact, spreading out damage over a wide surface to protect the wearer’s body within. The bodysuit has also been engineered to be resistant to harsh flames.
Besides the improved bodysuit, the armor also features the same capabilities that the previous suit had, such as the various helmet and gauntlet components. The helmet encompasses the wearer's entire head, and is outfitted with advanced features that allow the wearer to see both in the normal, infrared and ultraviolet light spectrum to better aid them in combat in various environments. A complex HUD coupled with audio/video recording hardware, a photochromic visor, motion sensors, and an encrypted internal comlink along with a one hour reserve supply of oxygen completes the list of helmet components. All of these features combined make for a rather advanced helmet used by the Blackblade Guard, although in this iteration of their combat armor nothing has been overly changed in the helmet.
The gauntlets have been left unchanged since the last version of the armor and feature the integrated datapad and holographic projector on the right gauntlet, the interchangeable weapon system on the left gauntlet, the wrist-mounted grappling hooks, and the electromagnetic devices implanted in the palms and fingers of the gauntlet. These devices allow the wearer to keep a tight death-grip on his weapons, and allow them to attract them from a short distance thanks to magnetism.
The aesthetic of the armor was also modified to resemble armor used during the Great Galactic War and the New Sith Wars, and was colored a dark charcoal with cardinal red and cobalt blue highlights and trims. Mostly these two colors were used in certain patterns to denote the trooper’s rank among the Guard in lieu of rank insignias (which were instead reserved for non-combat officer uniforms among the Guard).
