DESCRIPTION |
Innovation had always been the hallmark of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and it was their modification projects that saw the deployment of the first line of Assault Frigates that soon bolstered their forces with much-needed Capital Ships. Looking back on that project heavily inspired a new line of Warships to be produced and provided to the Galactic Alliance in mass quantity whilst retaining the qualities that made the Assault Frigate lines the powerhouses that they are. The Blissex-class carries on the line of its predecessors and carries the Mark III designation, though its size and relative build place it among Cruisers despite its naming convention. Its primary role is that of an assault craft, equipped with dozens of heavy armaments and just as many defensive measures, the vessel was designed to batter down shields and rend open hulls whilst taking a beating in prolonged engagements. Where it seems to come up short is in the lack of a meaningful hangar capacity as it was heavily reduced with the introduction of additional weapon systems. This has resulted in the Blissex-class being capable of only fielding a singular squadron of Support Craft; being forced to rely on Dedicated Carriers or provided Starfighter Escorts for further assistance. Likewise, its heavier armor and additional defensive systems have resulted in a marked decrease in its overall speed as well as affecting its maneuverability. As such, the Blissex-class is known to be a sluggish vessel that is unlikely to win any prizes for a racing event or be able to execute split-second maneuvers. Though lacking the capacity to deploy Starfighters, and being a monstrously burdensome vessel to maneuver and pilot, the Blissex-class excels in its dedicated roles. Its relative size and the inclusion of heavier armaments and defenses provide the Alliance Navy with a Capital Ship that fits neatly between the classifications of Frigate and Cruiser whilst also providing a vessel that is readily available for mass production. As the Alliance continues to find itself embroiled in conflict, the Blissex-class provides a means to shatter defensive formations and strike at the heart of an opposing fleet. |
