Bloodscrawl Kybers are the distinct shade of Naturally Red Kybers found in extremely rare geodes on Ession. Believed to be red from the often large deposits of iron found in the geodes that grow them, The Bloodscrawls used them in the construction of Ceremonial Lightsabers, passed from parent to child, from Master to Student. Bloodscrawls were among the rare Jedi permitted to wield red Lightsabers via a special waver so long as they possessed this particular shade of red, a tradition extending from the creation of the legendary weapon known as the Lance of Ession thousands of years in the past. Even so, they were wielded only in rare emergencies or private ceremonies, which became more personal and private as the era of Palpatine approached. By the time of the Clone Wars, the modern founder of the Family, Antony Bloodscrawl, was the only member left of the family and the only one who remembered the tradition, keeping it alive in secret, though he was unable to use them during the duration of the Galactic Empire's existence due to being unable to hide their presence.
The death of the Bloodscrawls brought a definitive, official end to the tradition, though single examples occasionally turn up in private collections. But the best way to acquire them is still by heading to Ession. Some can be found in temple ruins inside of Trade League space

- Alteration Difficulty: The natural red of the crystal seems to be extremely difficult to alter through meditation or even more arcane means: Nathan is the only known person in his family to have ever successfully altered the color of a Bloodscrawl Kyber through meditation. This is not to say no one else could achieve a similar outcome, but that it would be of extreme difficulty due to the unique chemical composition of the crystals themselves which give them their naturally red color. Light Side Users may decide against wielding the blades just to avoid, shall we say, "confusion", due to the difficulty of altering the color. If you can pull it off, however, nice going! (Difficulty determined by Player Character who received one)
- Deflector: The thin blades these crystals create make them much more difficult to use for blast deflection, to the point blades powered by such crystals are used almost exclusively for dueling.
- Beacon: Due to intense Light Side Signature, they cannot be hidden in the Force
- Drain clause: Drain type Powers are the only dark side powers the crystal protects against
- Synth Vulnerable: Twice the breakage chance to Synthetically Powered Lightsaber blades as Regular Crystal Lightsabers
