Description:
The bomber was designed and created on Anaxes at the Taobh Dorcha Industries headquarters. The basis for the bomber was to allow the COTBR to incorporate an atmospheric bomber into their navy, providing covering fire for it's ground troops by releasing it's bombs on both ground targets and military installations.
The bomber can also be used to simply destroy targets of opportunity.
The Devastator is a fast, durable, and reliable ship. The payload it carries is above the average number a normal bomber can carry. The call for such a high payload of bombs is to allow for it to remain on it's schedule without returning back to it's mothership to be refitted.
The bomber, unfortunately, is poorly designed to defend itself against other starfighters. It's twin cannons are powerful enough to keep it in a dogfight, but it is highly recommended that it avoids such entanglements. Because of the poor defense system, the bomber is usually accompanied by two or three Black Talon starfighters.
Another drawback to the bomber is the required use of two pilots. The main pilot, whose responsibility is to fly the ship and engage hostiles with the bomber's defense cannons. The second pilot, nicknamed the Hammer, is responsible for plotting in the target's coordinates and releasing the bombs by pressing the activation buttons; one to arm the bombs and one to release the bombs. Once released, the targeting system kicks in.
However, if the Hammer is wounded or killed, the main pilot has no way of arming, plotting the coordinates, and releasing the bombs. If this occurs, the bomber is now designated as a weak starfighter and must return back to the mothership.
