They don't have a lot of crime in space other than theft. But every once in a while, things turn ugly, and when they turn ugly, they turn very ugly.

It was late, very late, at night aboard The Rat, a luxury liner converted for combat. Her captain, Karlotius Vynamo, had been mulling over a major problem that had arisen. He and his fleet, the Wild Horde, had been performing piracy in the space near Byss for quite a while, but due to their actions, trade had ground to a halt in the region. Without trade, there weren't ships, and the Wild Horde had to move elsewhere to find work. Now, Byss was slowly but surely opening back up for trade routes, and now Karlotius knew to be careful and not to interfere for some time. However, recently, the Wild Horde's spies had caught word that a massive trading convoy was to be passing through the area with weapons, ships, food, and, most importantly, some very valuable ancient schematics. His recruiters had gone around to some nearby systems and had some interested parties willing to help for a cut of the profits. To his surprise, there were quite a few folks willing to risk their lives for a dollar. Bless their hearts. He prepared to address the recruits on the bridge with him, but, unexpectedly, the captain of the head of the convoy made contact with The Rat.
