- Classification: Class-D Select-fire Disruptor Marksman's Rifle
- Size: Average
- Weight: Heavy
- Ammunition Type: Gas cartridge-power cell combined unit.
- Ammunition Capacity: Extremely Small. 20-round gas cartridge-power cell combined unit.
- Effective Range: Battlefield
- Rate of Fire: Average
- Stopping Power: Extreme.
- Recoil: Average
- Integrated Gyro-Gimbal: Drastically helps with balance, sighting, and recovering from recoil, potentially allowing the user to ensure that each shot counts, which is especially important when the rifle's extremely limited ammunition capacity is taken into account.
- Three Fire Modes: The rifle possesses a semi-automatic, two-round burst and fully automatic fire modes.
- Integrated Targeting Computer with HUD Linking Capability: The weapon features an onboard targeting computer which has the ability to interface with HUD systems and provide provide compensation for various atmospheric conditions, and uses the HUD's binocular mode (if it has one, and is limited based on the weapon's own range when used in this mode) as a magnified optic. Heavy amounts of jamming doesn't affect this feature given proximity between the weapon and the user.
- Class-D Disruptor: Class-D disruptors can cause the atomic deletion of their target, potentially breaking down the chemical bonds. Each shot is capable of doing immense amounts of damage on target, and has little regard for armor.
- Long Range: The rifle's powerful bolts are capable of traveling great distances before they lose coherency.
- High Velocity: Each bolt/pulse can travel the distance between shooter and target at a remarkable speed, fast enough even to give a skilled force user pause or to make the most ardent Verpine Shatter Rifle fan look on impressed or in envy.
- Accurate: Almost pinpoint accurate out to its furthest range increment, there is a good reason the DR-03 is valued as a marksman's rifle.
- Resilient Frame: The rifle's armored frame allows it to take quite a beating. With a combat de-ionizer and reinforced duraplast reinforcements, the rifle is resistant to EMP/Ion damage to an extent.
- Heavy: The rifle his heavier than most, limiting how easily it can be maneuvered in close quarters combat.
- Illegal: Disruptors are illegal on many worlds, but Class-D disruptors take that to a whole new level. It is unlikely that a Class-D disruptor would be viewed as a sign of someone not looking to start trouble even in space where it is legal. Which could lead to more than a few problems.
- Immoral: The weapon is extremely immoral, given what it does to a target. Using this weapon will likely garner the wrong sort of attention. Perhaps even sign one's own death warrant.
- Low Ammunition Capacity: Twenty shots isn't a lot of ammunition to work with, and in a pitched firefight against overwhelming numbers twenty rounds will go quickly.
- Overheating: Because of the small ammunition capacity, usually overheating is not a concern, but several gas cartridge-power cell combined units later and overheating will become an issue, to the point where the weapon's safety mechanisms will kick in and lock down the weapon to prevent permanent damage. Naturally, this is also dependant on atmospheric conditions.
- EMP/Ion: When faced with a powerful enough EMP/Ion surge, it is possible that the weapon's defenses against aforementioned damage will be overwhelmed and the weapon's more sensitive components will be fried.
The decision to start on Class-D disruptor manufacturing came shortly after the news of the Mandalorian civil war. Concerned that the conflict was going to spill into their system, the clans of Breshig came with a demand for Breshig War Forge Consolidated, and that was a demand for weapons that would tilt the odds in their favor if it came to that, and almost everyone was fairly sure that it would. Knowing that there was little choice, Breshig War Forge Consolidated began production on a series of Class-D disruptor rifles and pistols. The DR-03 is the first truly successful Class-D disruptor rifle produced by the company after it's disastrous DR-02 rifle.
Designed to be a precise rifle geared toward long range engagements rather that pitched close quarters firefights where a disruptor would be a waste, given that most shots would go wild, the DR-03 performs admirably in this regard. The long range capability, accuracy and high velocity of the bolts fired by the weapon ensure that it is indeed a viable weapon to use at longer ranges. It's fire rate doesn't preclude its use in close quarters, but its weight and low ammunition capacity does mean that it isn't ideal for use in such an environment.
Though protected against EMP/Ion weapons, inclement atmospheric conditions and particularly powerful weapons of that nature can cause problems for the weapon. Another issue the weapon has is its tendency to overheat after going through several gas cartridge-power cell combined units later, and signs of overheating are likely to show. As such, the weapon has a safety feature that will lock it down to prevent permanent damage to the weapon.
There is the question of the weapon's legality and the morality or lack thereof behind the use of such a weapon, but it was a desperate weapon created for a desperate time that continues to see use and production because of the fact that times are now no less desperate.
