OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a drone capable of defending targets from a variety of threats for Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.

  • Primary Source: Stoic Missile Sentry, SRG-87 Railgun Drone.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Folding Wings: The drone's wings can fold for easier storage and to potentially allow it to get through tight spaces.
  • Guardian: Ver'gebuir drones' primary purpose is to protect a target, whether a singular target or multiple targets, in groups or on their own. The drones will follow the target, positioning themselves
  • Network: Ver'gebuir drones can network together to protect a target, coordinating spacing, positioning, targeting and the like.
STRENGTHS
  • Bodyguard: The Ver'gebuir drone is programmed to defend targets and will do so on its own, whether a single target or a multiple targets. Ver'gebuir drones can network together to protect a target, coordinating spacing, positioning targeting and the like.
  • Fast and Agile: The Ver'gebuir is capable of keeping up with some of the fastest corvettes and the most nimble starfighters, but is incapable of utilizing that speed and maneuverability for better positioning against hostiles.
  • Heavily Armed: A single Araniik module is armed with a pair of mass-driver autocannons and a pair of mass-driver missile launchers, and the Ver'gebuir has two.
  • Resilient: The drone is built to take remain resilient in the face of the heavy incoming fire that's usually encountered during the course of battlefield service.
  • Low-observability: The drone's small size combined with it's electronic warfare suite and reflec coating allow it to potentially evade detection at longer ranges and make it more difficult for hostiles to acquire a target lock.
WEAKNESSES
  • Purely Defensive: The Ver'gebuir is entirely incapable of utilizing it's rather notable speed and maneuverability to attain better positioning against hostiles.
  • EMP/Ion: EMP and Ion weapons, provided they can cause enough damage to bypass the drone's defenses, are likely to cause irreparable damage.
  • Low-observability: Low-observability is not true stealth, at closer ranges and with powerful, military-grade targeting equipment, most of the drone's advantages are negated.
  • Ammunition: The drone's weapons, a pair of Araniik point-defence systems, are highly reliant on ammunition owing to the nature of the weapons that make up the system. As such, once its out, it is useless until it resupplies.
  • Boom: A penetrating shot is likely to set off the ammunition stored inside the drone, resulting in a sympathetic chain reaction that will destroy the drone.
DESCRIPTION
"At some point, numbers matter."
- Strill Securities Fleet Admiral Nyles Kote
The Ver'gebuir was developed to solve the problem of numbers that Strill Securities units frequently ran into. Flight controllers and pilots found it difficult to fully commit to an attack as well as ensure that the full formation had adequate fighter cover when greatly outnumbered. As such, Breshig War Forge Consolidated got to work developing a solution for this particular problem. The first solution adopted was the Gar Oya'karir fighter, which provided much needed numbers to Strill Securities forces, but didn't quite solve the problem, just alleviated it to an extent. They were also expensive, making them not quite disposable in the way the company had hoped. It was for this reason that the company turned to a drone that would not only take less space than a fighter, but would cost significantly less. Thus the Ver'gebuir was developed.
The Ver'gebuir combines the firepower of two Araniik systems into a resilient, shielded frame with a powerful maneuvering array and engines. Where the cost saving comes is in less electronics given that it's a drone, cheaper communications and engines, significantly less fuel stores and lack of a life support system as well as the entire package being a smaller size resulting in less materials used. That said, however, the two Araniik systems give the Ver'gebuir incredible firepower, especially against starfighters and missile threats, though groups of Ver'gebuir can potentially threaten even corvette sized craft in the right numbers. Further increasing its capabilities is it's low-observability. The drone's small size combined with it's electronic warfare suite and reflec coating allow it to potentially evade detection at longer ranges and make it more difficult for hostiles to acquire a target lock.
Low-observability, however, is not true stealth. At closer ranges and with powerful, military-grade targeting equipment, most of the drone's advantages are negated. For all their speed and maneuverability, the Ver'gebuir is unable to utilize either to attain better positioning against hostiles. Additionally, given the small frame, ammunition storage is centralized, which in addition to the Araniik system being entirely dependant on a less than plentiful ammunition store, also means that the drone will almost certainly be destroyed in the result of a penetrating hit that breaches said ammunition store. Finally, given that it is a drone, EMP and Ion weapons, provided they can cause enough damage to bypass the drone's defenses, are likely to cause irreparable damage.
