PRODUCTION INFORMATION
- Manufacturer: Breshig War Forge Consolidated.
- Affiliation: Breshig War Forge Consolidated and Strill Securities.
- Material: Ripper round components, nano missile components, Depleted Baradium micro-flechettes, Reinforced Duraplast Ultramesh liner, Ultrachrome electronics.
- Modularity: Variants exist for all the company's ripper weapon offerings.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- HUD/Smart Optic Link: Initial target acquisition and designation is done through the round's short-range link to compatible HUD and/or smart optics.
- Guidance Modes:
- Active Homing:
- Pre-launch: The round downloads target information from the user's HUD or the weapon's smart optic.
- Launch: The round's targeting microcomputer completes preliminary planning for maneuvering and plots the course.
- Midcourse: The targeting microcomputer compares initial target information to sensor data and decides whether any maneuvering or course changes are required.
- Terminal: The round switches to laser gyroscope inertial guidance for the terminal phase, preventing broad spectrum jamming from affecting it to a large extent.
- Control Guided:
- Pre-launch: The round downloads target information from the user's HUD or the weapon's smart optic.
- Launch: The round's targeting microcomputer completes preliminary planning for maneuvering and plots the course.
- Midcourse: The targeting microcomputer compares initial target information to sensor data from the HUD or optic decides whether any maneuvering or course changes are required.
- Terminal: The round switches to laser gyroscope inertial guidance for the terminal phase, preventing broad spectrum jamming from affecting it to a large extent.
- Active Homing:
- Dumbfire: The rounds can still be fired without a target being set, acting precisely as standard ripper rounds.
- Rear-facing Comm Laser
- Sensor, Scanner and Tracking Suite: The round's guidance microcomputer creates a composite sensor picture by cross checking data from all of its sensors when in guidance modes where it actively uses the to acquire/track targets.
STRENGTHS
- Minimal Miss Chance: Given the high velocity of ripper rounds and the added evasion mitigation and the ability to course correct that the guided rounds have the chance of actually missing a target is greatly lowered.
- Jamming Resistant: The composite sensor, scanner and tracking suite prevents broad spectrum jamming from affecting it to a large extent.
- Tracking: The round does not require either the HUD or smart optic to be constantly oriented in the direction of the target during the target acquisition and assignment phase, just to be tracking the target.
- Armor-Piercing: These rounds have a high chance of penetrating medium and even some heavier armors to cause significant damage.
WEAKNESSES
- HUD/Smart Optic Required: The round requires a compatible HUD or smart optic system to mark targets, switch guidance modes and the like.
- Limited Maneuvering: These rounds are incapable of making any dramatic maneuvering. They can account for last minute evasion attempts by most targets, or be arced around or over the edge of cover, but nothing more.
- Resolution: The round's own sensors don't have the highest resolution due to the fact that they have be both hardened and miniaturized, and as a result the round's ability to engage low-profile infantry targets such as those with reflec coated armor and the like while using active guidance mode is notably limited.
- Not As Accurate: When dumbfired, the flechette distribution pattern is a lot looser than if fired as a smart round.
DESCRIPTION
The GVSR-F-series of rounds was designed to solve a problem that the standard offerings of the GRR-series-series couldn't solve as effectively, namely the issue of notably rapidly maneuvering targets. The GVSR-F combines the high hit probability of both flechette and guided rounds with the versatility of still being able to use a more general purpose ripper weapon, making it beloved by the company's Shocktrooper scouts and Nightstalker Commandos, who don't often have the luxury of choosing both.
The rounds also greatly decrease the chance of unsuccessful target engagement due to the high velocity of ripper rounds and the added evasion mitigation and the ability to course correct. The rounds are also convenient to use, as they do not require either the HUD or smart optic to be constantly oriented in the direction of the target during the target acquisition and assignment phase, just to be tracking the target. This allows the shooter to stay focused without having to focus on operation of the guided round. Additionally, the round is jamming resistant, as its composite sensor, scanner and tracking suite prevents broad spectrum jamming from affecting it to a large extent.
The round cannot function without a compatible, connected HUD or smart optic system to mark targets targets, switch guidance modes and the like. Though if either of the above were to malfunction, the round can still be dumb fired like a 'standard' ripper round. Though guided, the rounds are only capable of limited maneuvering. They can account for last minute evasion attempts by most targets, or be arced around or over the edge of cover, but nothing more. The major downside with the round, however, is the comparatively lower sensor resolution. The round's own sensors don't have the highest resolution due to the fact that they have be both hardened and miniaturized, and as a result the round's ability to engage low-profile infantry targets such as those with reflec coated armor and the like while using active guidance mode is notably limited.
