- Canon Link: N/A.
- Permissions: N/A.
- Primary Source: FL-01 Verpine Shatter Flechette Launcher.
- Manufacturer: Breshig War Forge Consolidated.
- Affiliation: Breshig War Forge Consolidated, its subsidiary Strill Securities, Mandalorians and Closed-Market.
- Model: HFL-02 Heavy Flechette Launcher.
- Modularity: Yes. Ammunition types, grip and optics. Frame can be electroplated with other metals or coated with other materials.
- Production: Minor.
- Material: Duranium frame, dallorian alloy coated barrel, reinforced duraplast plating, combat de-ionizer and verpine shatter weapon components.
- Classification: Heavy Flechette Launcher.
- Size: Very Large.
- Weight: Very Heavy.
- Ammunition Type: Flechette canisters, power cells.
- Ammunition Capacity: Large. 32-round box magazine, 64-round power cells.
- Effective Range: Average. 100 meters.
- Rate of Fire: High.
- Stopping Power: Extreme.
- Recoil: Average.
- Integrated Gyro-gimbal: In order to better balance the weapon both before and after firing a shot, a gyro-gimbal was integrated into it.
- Laser Tracking System: The weapon features a laser tracking system that tagged targets with an electronic homing signature.
- Target Tracking Repulsor Canister/Sabot: The cannister/sabot follows the electronic homing signature of tagged targets to track and follow the target's movements, and make course corrections in flight. Upon reaching three meters, or a pre-designated distance from the target, the canister would release its payload in either an area of effect or directed explosion. In the case of the sabot, it will instead just continue on toward the target.
- Variety of Ammunition: Breshig War Forge Consolidated produces a variety of ammunition for the weapon:
- Anti-Personnel Flechette Canister: Filled with 20 millimeter long depleted baradium micro-flechettes.
- Anti-Personnel Pellet Canister: Filled with depleted baradium pellets.
- Anti-Armor Sabot: A 16.5 centimeter long tunqstoid flechette fitted with micro repulsors.
- Target Tracking: The weapon's high velocity ammunition tracks targets and so there's a far lower chance of missing.
- Armor-Piercing: The rounds fired by this weapon have a higher chance of penetrating armor and causing significant damage than traditional slugthrowers.
- Whisper Quiet: Like all Verpine Shatter weapons, the HFL-02 Verpine Shatter Flechette Launcher is whisper quiet at the point of the shooter when fired on supersonic mode, and is dead quiet when fired on subsonic throughout the round's trajectory. Only a very faint whistle may be heard in the event of a near miss.
- Armor Bane (Anti-Armor Sabot): The high power of the rounds, it's impressive propensity for armor penetration, high projectile velocity and excellent range make the weapon excellent for use in neutralizing armored vehicles. While it doesn't struggle against heavily armored vehicles as much as the FL-01, it still needs to be aimed carefully to be able to do any real damage.
- Repulsor Jammer: Should a repulsorlift jammer be in play, while the weapon will still be able to fire, the canisters/sabots will not be able to track their targets.
- EMP/Ion Vulnerability: Despite the attempt to protect the weapon's sensitive electronics, a powerful enough EMP/Ion weapon will fry the acceleration coils and render the weapon useless.
- Heavy: While beings of considerable strength, either natural, artificial or augmented, can wield the weapon without any real issue, the fact remains that the HFL-02 doesn't weight much less than a blaster cannon and is problematic to carry over long distances.
- Heavy Ammunition: The ammunition for the flechette launcher isn't particularly light and thus limits the amount that a user could potentially carry.
- Explosive Reactive Armor: ERA with sufficient explosive mass can deform the sabots fired by this weapon.
For all intents and purposes, the HFL-02 heavy flechette launcher is a scaled up, fully automatic version of the FL-01 verpine shatter flechette launcher made by Breshig War Forge Consolidated. Initially intended for use by the company's Gar Verd series of battle droids, there was enough popularity among Strill Securities troops that the company increased production and began supplying Strill Securities and put any surplus up for sale.
Like the FL-01, the HFL-01's ammunition tracks targets, reducing the chances of missing. In addition to their ability to track targets various rounds fired by this weapon have a higher chance of penetrating armor and causing significant damage than traditional slugthrowers by virtue of being fired from a verpine shatter weapon the velocities attainable by the round tanks to the weapon's gravitic coils. Like all Verpine Shatter weapons, the HFL-02 Verpine Shatter Flechette Launcher is whisper quiet at the point of the shooter when fired on supersonic mode, and is dead quiet when fired on subsonic throughout the round's trajectory. Only a very faint whistle may be heard in the event of a near miss. The high power of the rounds, it's impressive propensity for armor penetration, high projectile velocity and excellent range make the weapon excellent for use in neutralizing armored vehicles. While it doesn't struggle against heavily armored vehicles as much as the FL-01, it still needs to be aimed carefully to be able to do any real damage.
The weapon does have a few notable flaws. Firstly, despite the attempt to protect the weapon's sensitive electronics, a powerful enough EMP/Ion weapon will fry the acceleration coils and render the weapon useless. Secondly, should a repulsorlift jammer be in play, while the weapon will still be able to fire, the canisters/sabots will not be able to track their targets. Thirdly, while beings of considerable strength, either natural, artificial or augmented, can wield the weapon without any real issue. The fact remains that the HFL-02 doesn't weight much less than a blaster cannon and is problematic to carry over long distances. Compounding this particular issue is the fact that the ammunition for the flechette launcher isn't particularly light and thus limits the amount that a user could potentially carry. Finally, explosive reactive armor with sufficient explosive mass can deform the sabots fired by this weapon.
