OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create an automated ammunition handling system for starships for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities, Mandalorians and select others.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • On Demand Ammunition: The ammunition handling system has sensors at each weapon mount on the ship that check for when the emplacement is low on ammunition before sending a 'request' for ammunition from one of the ammunition stores on the ship. The request reaches the main coordinating computer and is placed into a queue in the order that it arrived. The 'request' is then sent to the cargo controller of the ammunition store that is currently not handling a request or that has the required type of ammunition. This allows for weapons to be resupplied on the fly without having to divert organic or inorganic personnel and allows for ammunition stores to be spread over a ship rather than be centralized, meaning it is far more unlikely for the ammunition store to be set off by penetrating shots or sabotage.
  • Separate Conveyors/Pipes: Different solid slug weapons and missiles are moved through the ship using different pipes/conveyors to minimize the chances of the system being backed up.
STRENGTHS
  • On Demand Ammunition: The system allows for weapons to be resupplied on the fly without having to divert organic or inorganic personnel.
  • Decentralized Ammunition Storage: The system allows for ammunition stores to be spread over a ship rather than be centralized, meaning it is far more unlikely for the ammunition store to be set off by penetrating shots or sabotage.
  • 'Iu'yaniyasa Ga'napr' Automated Modular Foundry Compatibility: When ammunition reserves are running low, the system can automatically queue up a request for more ammunition, specifying what kind and how much, to the automated modular factory.
WEAKNESSES
  • Delay: When receiving multiple 'requests' for ammunition, the system can get bogged down and ammunition conveying can be slowed. This is a less than ideal situation.
  • Damage: Should the ship sustain damage, there's a chance that part of the conveying system could become damaged, preventing resupply. More troubling, however, is the chance for medium gas or ammunition to spill into parts of the ship, potentially creating a hazard.
  • Purpose Built: Ships cannot be retrofitted with this system, and have to be built to use this system.
DESCRIPTION
Designed to solve two potential issues with ship design, Breshig War Forge Consolidated developed the 'Iu'yaniyasa Larda' Automated Ammunition Handling System. The ammunition handling system has sensors at each weapon mount on the ship that check for when the emplacement is low on ammunition before sending a 'request' for ammunition from one of the ammunition stores on the ship.

When ammunition reserves are running low, the system can automatically queue up a request for more ammunition, specifying what kind and how much, to the automated modular factory.

The system does have a number of issues, however. When receiving multiple 'requests' for ammunition, the system can get bogged down and ammunition conveying can be slowed. This is a less than ideal situation. Should the ship sustain damage, there's a chance that part of the conveying system could become damaged, preventing resupply. More troubling, however, is the chance for medium gas or ammunition to spill into parts of the ship, potentially creating a hazard. Finally, ships cannot be retrofitted with this system, and have to be built to use this system.
