STRENGTHS
- Customization: Various sensor, scanner and visor HUD systems can be toggled on or off or grouped together to provide mission/task specific packages. Additionally, the position of HUD elements can be moved around or even set not to display, and the system even allows for multiple configurations for different purposes and even supports multiple users.
- Composite View: The 'view' in the main HUD is a composite view of all sensors and scanners that are currently online as well as data coming in from the Manda tactical battlenet.
- Expert Knowledge: The Computer Interface, Medical and Mechanical visor gives easy access to expert information in an easy to digest format, allowing them to make use of it on the field without being entirely familiar with the subject matter themselves. For those familiar, any information that they might require is made available almost instantaneously, augmenting their own affinity with the subject matter.
- Manda: The Manda module provides the user with the system's best analysis of enemy tactics, which takes into account enemy positioning, aggression, capabilities, known tactics, fighting styles and current status overlaid onto the user's HUD. The system also creates an accurate and adaptive firing matrix, making real-time adjustments for movement, battlefield debris, atmospheric conditions and other factors. The system can allow accurate tracking and target identification through thick cloud cover, storms and heavy rain, fog, as well as other conditions that might otherwise impair targeting to a severe degree.
- Advanced Communications Interface: The HUD interfaces with comlink systems to create transcripts, display transmitted images and recordings, highlight targets indicated by members of the unit, attempt to create a transcript of audio pickups and more, ensuring that ensuring that the user's communication experience is as seamless as possible by providing easy to process real-time information.
- Powerful, Varied, Self-modulating Encryption: The Kartayl's communication suite has a number of powerful, varied encryption methods, making it's communications even if intercepted extremely difficult to decipher.
- Stealth Mode: Given that the majority of the sensor and scanner systems are active, the inbuilt low-feedback scanner allows users to maintain a low sensor profile by not outputting active sensor pulses that could potentially be detected.
- Resilient: The system's housing is made from reinforced duraplast and features a combat de-ionizer, making it very resilient against most forms of damage and lessening the likelihood of damage taking the entire system offline.
WEAKNESSES
- Two Ways: The security of the comms suite is only as good as the unit on the other end. If the other comms unit lacks decryption capabilities, then sending an encrypted message would be entirely useless.
- Jamming: Theoretically it is possible (though not plausible) to jam out all conventional communications technologies the Kartayl uses, though naturally this will likely prevent those behind the jamming from using those frequencies/channels as well.
- Not All Comm Units Are Equal: If the other comm unit doesn't have equivalent frequency hopping or encryption capabilities then the whole system is that much less secure.
- Power: The system draws a lot of power, especially with the entire sensor, scanner and comms suite online.
- Range: Not all the sensors work at the same ranges, and for those unfamiliar with using equipment like this, it can be easy to forget that just because something isn't picked up doesn't mean it isn't there.
- Overload: The sensor and scanner suite as well as the Manda tactical battlenet module can be overloaded with too much information, which will force a reboot of the entire system, leaving the user without comms, sensors or scanners for the duration.
- EMP/Ion: Should the system actually sustain EMP/Ion damage that bypasses it's defenses, then it can cause all manner of havoc, such as data corruption, sensor damage, forced reboots and even total system failure.
- Active Sensors: The majority of the sensor and scanner suite are all active, meaning that anyone looking for active sensor signatures or indeed using active sensors themselves will likely easily be able to detect the system's emissions.
- Training: The sheer amount of information as well as the non-traditional user interface is extremely difficult for those who have not had any experience and/or training to use.
DESCRIPTION
"Am I the only one that remembers the days they reserved this sort of gear for rammikad units?"
"Armor, fancy gear, implants and deadly weapons aren't what make a Mandalorian rammikad, Ran."
- Ran Netra and Saram Kote, Strill Securities Vuhyr'yalilyr
Strill Securities prides itself on well equipped, well trained and well motivated troops, though the company lacked the funds prior to its merger with Breshig War Forge Consolidated to ensure that all of its soldiers had the best equipment available to them, the merger has changed that. Designed as the standard sensor suite to be used in the armor systems of all combat units for Strill Securities, Breshig War Forge Consolidated ensured that the system combined Mandalorian reliability with the best sensor and scanner technology available combined with the ground variant of their Manda tactical battlenet module.
Mandalorian gear tends to be very customizable, and the company wanted to ensure that their system retained that, and as such the HUD as well as what sensors and scanners are active is all customizable by the user. The system even allows for multiple presets for various situations and even has multi user support. To save the user from having to switch between multiple visor modes and sensor/scanner feeds, the company configured the default setting of the visor such that a composite view of all active sensor/scanner feeds and visor modes is what is displayed. This gives the user fantastic situational awareness, and allows them to focus on their task at hand rather than negotiating the HUD interface or checking feeds.
Additionally, in order to free up specialists for matters that truly require their attention given the lower number of Mandalorians boots on the ground in comparison, computer, mechanical and medical visor systems were integrated into the system to allow easy access to expert information in an easy to digest format, allowing them to make use of it on the field without being entirely familiar with the subject matter themselves. For those familiar, any information that they might require is made available almost instantaneously, augmenting their own affinity with the subject matter.
The addition of the Manda tactical battlenet module is what really sets the HUD system apart from others. The system interfaces with the armor's sensor suite and processes the incoming datastream, checking it against its data stores of atmospheric conditions, known jamming and signals interference patterns, weapon and armor systems, vehicle and atmosphere capable craft and various other pertinent databases to create a complete 'map of the battlefield that is constantly updated by fresh sensor data. This map is then used as the soldier's main map.
The module then provides the user with the system's best analysis of enemy tactics, which takes into account enemy positioning, aggression, capabilities, known tactics, fighting styles and current status overlaid onto the user's HUD.
Usually, accessing communications systems can be a somewhat tedious affair in full armor. BWFC has done their best to ensure that with the Kartayl, such tediousness is a thing of the past. The HUD interfaces with comlink systems to create transcripts, display transmitted images and recordings, highlight targets indicated by members of the unit, attempt to create a transcript of audio pickups and more, ensuring that ensuring that the user's communication experience is as seamless as possible by providing easy to process real-time information.
Given that the their system was to be used by units involved in covert operations, the company knew that the entire array of active scanners and sensors could give the user away, but at the same time denying them the use of any sensor equipment in such cases wasn't feasible. As such, the company included a low-feedback sensor to allow teams wishing to maintain the lowest possible sensor profile to still have the benefit of a sensor system, albeit one not nearly as comprehensive as the full array of sensors. Of course, given the prevalence of ion weapons and the abuse Mandalorian helmets tend to go through, the company ensured that the system was well protected from both conventional damage sources as well as EMP/Ion damage.
The downside to the system was its power draw, which was significant. Though their own armor systems have powerful power generation systems that accomodate for this, this isn't always the case others wishing to use the system. Buffer overflow is also a problem that the company was unable to fix given the sheer number of sensor/scanners included in the system, mandating a system restart should it happen. Of course, like most electronic system, EMP/Ion damage that bypasses its defenses can wreak all manner of havoc. Wide spectrum jamming and heavy atmospheric interference can cause reduced sensor effectiveness and range that not even the Manda module's ability to draw data from other unit's sensor suites will be able to solve given the number of units affected in a given area
