TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Classification: Railgun.
- Size: Large.
- Weight: Very Heavy.
- Ammunition Type: Ordnance.
- Ammunition Capacity: Very Large. Exact count depends on mounting platform.
- Effective Range: Battlefield. Ordnance dependent, but long range ordnance can be accelerated to have increased range.
- Rate of Fire: High.
- Damage Output: Average. Dependent on ordnance.
- Recoil: High.
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Carousel Ordnance Loader: A carousel ordnance loader allows a variety of ordnance to be stored, and then when a particular missile or bomb is selected by the operator, the loader loads said ordnance into the barrel.
- Targeting System Integration: The weapon uses the craft's onboard targeting system to measure distance from craft to target to set what sort of velocity the loaded ordnance needs to be accelerated to.
- Cooling Systems: In order to prevent the large amounts of heat generated by the weapon from melting it, the MMOL-02C has an integrated cooling system that will shut the weapon down in the event of it overheating in order to perform a coolant flush and to allow the weapon to cool down. Each weapon has enough coolant to perform five coolant flushes, but can be connected to a larger coolant reservoir.
- Diagnostics and Analytics Suite: The weapon's in-built diagnostics and analysis suite keeps the crew apprised of everything from ammunition count to accelerator coil integrity and effectiveness.
STRENGTHS
- Versatile: A wide variety of ordnance can be loaded into the weapon, allowing for a truly versatile weapons loadout on whatever platform the weapon system is mounted on.
- Long Range: The accelerator rails in the barrel can accelerate ordnance to increase their maximum range, allowing traditionally shorter ranged ordnance to be used at longer ranges.
- Barrage: The MMOL-02C boasts a higher than average rate of fire, giving crews the ability to fire higher volume salvos at their targets.
- High Capacity: The carousel loader can hold a substantial amount of ordnance, allowing greatly reducing the need to transfer ordnance from stores to the batteries and thereby improving combat effectiveness.
WEAKNESSES
- Vulnerable to EMP/Ion Damage: If the launcher actually sustains enough EMP/Ion damage, it's accelerator rails will be permanently damaged, requiring a complete replacement of the barrel.
- Loader Malfunction: Should the loader, for whatever reason, malfunction, weapon will be unable to fire except for whatever ordnance was already loaded into the barrel.
- Cooling System Malfunction: Should the cooling system malfunction or become damaged, the launcher will shut down to prevent a critical operating failure, which could potentially cook off ordnance.
- Sympathetic Detonation: While mounted internally, should a penetrating shot penetrate the weapon's outer casing and enter the ordnance storage, it could potentially set off ordnance, sympathetically detonating other stored ordnance and quite possibly destroying the craft the weapon system is mounted on.
DESCRIPTION
The MMOL-02C was designed as the dedicated capital-grade variant of the smaller MMOL-02. The MMOL-02C's inception involved considerably less alcohol addled inspiration and was rather a modification of the original MMOL-02 design to better accommodate the larger ammunition reserves of capital ship/installation/station turret mounts and magazines. Like the 02 variant, the 02C features the same accelerator rails, increasing the maximum range of ordnance and allowing traditionally shorter ranged and/or slower ordnance to be used at longer ranges. The 02C variant additionally boasts a higher than average rate of fire, giving crews the ability to fire higher volume salvos at their targets.
The 02C has all the flaws of the 02. This includes and is by no means limited to it's EMP/Ion vulnerability. If the launcher actually sustains enough EMP/Ion damage, it's accelerator rails will be permanently damaged, requiring a complete replacement of the barrel. The launcher's loader is a critical component that if damaged to the point of being unable to function, or should some manner of malfunction occur, the weapon will be unable to reload. Like the 02 the 02C generates a lot of heat, and should the cooling system malfunction or be damaged beyond functioning, the launcher will shut down to prevent a critical operating failure which could potentially cook off ordnance.
Finally, while mounted internally, should a penetrating shot penetrate the weapon's outer casing and enter the ordnance storage, it could potentially set off ordnance, sympathetically detonating other stored ordnance and quite possibly destroying the craft the weapon system is mounted on.
