OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a powerful submachine gun equivalent ripper for use by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities, Mandalorians and select others.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: RR-04B Ripper Rifle.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Ripper carbine.
  • Size: Average.
  • Weight: Light.
  • Ammunition Type: Gas canister and slugs.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Very Small. 64-round gas canister-magazine combined unit.
  • Effective Range: Average. 120 meters.
  • Rate of Fire: Very High.
  • Stopping Power: High.
  • Recoil: High.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Integrated Gyro-Gimbal.
  • Three Fire Modes: The weapon possesses a semi-automatic, two-round burst and fully automatic fire modes.
  • Integrated Targeting Computer with HUD Linking Capability: The weapon features onboard targeting computer which has the ability to interface with HUD systems and provide provide compensation for various atmospheric conditions, and uses the HUD's binocular mode (if it has one, and is limited based on the weapon's own range when used in this mode) as a magnified optic. Heavy amounts of jamming doesn't affect this feature given proximity between the weapon and the user.
  • Variety of Ammunition: Breshig War Forge Consolidated produces a variety of ammunition for the weapon:
    • AP: Armor-piercing rounds with a depleted baradium core designed to act as a penetrator upon impact with armor.
    • HE: Deuterium detonator rounds designed to explode on contact with a hard surface.
    • Bronzium Full Metal Jacket Rounds: Bronzium jacketed rounds, standard ammunition for the weapon.
    • Electro-stun Round: Similar to electro-stun grenades but on a smaller scale, the electro-stun rounds are capable of immobilizing most humanoid targets with three or so impacts, whereupon they release an electric charge, though decidedly stubborn targets might require more rounds. These rounds are also not very effective against hard armored targets.
    • EMP: Micro-EMP rounds, unlikely to permanently damage a droid or armor systems, but capable of causing a momentary sensor lag or targeting system delay against unshielded systems. More of a distraction than anything else, though the best warriors know that even a second's worth of time on your enemy is well worth it.
STRENGTHS
  • Ignores Energy Shielding: While particle shielding will still stop a ripper round, energy shielding will strip the energy coating of a ripper round but allow the projectile to pass through.
  • Improved Penetration: Ripper rounds superheat the site of impact, allowing for improved penetration of armor.
  • Large Caliber, High Velocity and Energy Coated: There's nothing subtle about the energy coated 11.5x25mm rounds the ripper sends downrange at high velocities. If it penetrates armor or strikes an unarmored targets, it is very likely to do significant damage.
  • Versatile Ammunition: The weapon has a variety of rounds that it can fire, enabling it to engage a variety of different targets.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy Ammunition: The ammunition for the weapon isn't as easy as light as blaster power cells or gas cartridges. This makes carrying spare ammunition a somewhat troublesome proposition, and at some point, impossible.
  • Small Ammunition Capacity: Equivalent blaster carbines have a far higher capacity and can pack as much if not more of a punch than this weapon.
  • Higher Degree of Competency Required: The Ripper is not a weapon for those who don't have a reasonable competency in marksmanship.
  • Two Consumables: Rippers require both gas as propellant and solid slug ammunition to fire.
DESCRIPTION

"When you have to get out of your IFV while under fire and get into a building to kill the friends of the shabuire firing at you, you'll appreciate a nice, solid compact weapon. Remember, when the shabuire are right in front of you, range doesn't matter so much."
- Strill Securities Lataruta Ruus Kote
Designed as a weapon more easily concealable and easy to maneuver in tight quarters than a full size ripper rifle but harder hitting and more versatile than a particle or blaster weapon, the RPDW-01 is popular among Strill Securities marine units and Jurkad Verde during urban operations. The weapon is also sold by the company and certainly has accrued a number of customers with a noticeable appreciation for the weapon.

Like other ripper weapons produced by the company, the RPDW-01 has an integrated targeting computer which has the ability to interface with HUD systems and provide provide compensation for various atmospheric conditions. This system uses the HUD's binocular mode (if it has one, and is limited based on the weapon's own range when used in this mode) as a magnified optic. Additionally, it also features an integrated gyro-gimbal to help steady the weapon before and after firing.

Ripper weapons have the advantage of ignoring most energy shielding. Energy shielding will strip the energy coating off a ripper round, but will not stop the projectile itself from passing through. Ripper rounds superheat the site of impact, allowing for improved penetration of both hard and soft armor as well as cover. Rippers, and the RPDW-01 in particular, fires high velocity energy coated 11.5x25mm rounds. These rounds are extremely deadly, and should they penetrate armor or strike an unarmored target, they are likely to cause significant damage to most targets.

The disadvantage to the deadly rounds they fire, is that these rounds require supplies of medium gas to energy coat the rounds. The rounds themselves aren't as easy to carry around as a powercell or gas cartridge, given that they're heavier. This makes carrying spare ammunition more difficult, and at a point, impossible. On such a note, the weapon also has a far smaller ammunition capacity than equivalent blaster carbines, many of which posses the same if not higher potential to cause damage. Finally, unlike energy weapons, ripper weapon users have to take atmospheric conditions into account, even if not to take the same degree as one using a slugthrower.
