- Heavy and Versatile Armament: With three MMOL-2 launchers, four modular heavy weapons mounts and either a repeating super-heavy mass-driver or super-heavy ion cannon, the Jai'galaar can put a staggering amount of firepower downrange. All of the fighter's weapons are capable of carrying a wide variety of ordnance, giving it the ability to effectively counter a number of threats.
- Resilient: Strong hull, powerful shields and a wide variety of conventional and electronic countermeasures ensure that the fighter is well protected against threats that it might face.
- Fast: With powerful engines, the Jai'galaar is able to 'boom and zoom' larger, slower targets and allows it to potentially outrun fights that it cannot win.
- Advanced Sensor and Comms Suite: The Jai'galaar has an advanced and long range comms and sensor suite, ensuring effective coordination and target acquisition.
- Stealthy: The electronic warfare suite of the fighter and its low-profile engines ensures that the fighter has a very low sensor profile at medium and long ranges, allowing for it to potentially avoid much of incoming fire until it is right on its target.
- 'Manda' Tactical Battlenet: The Jai'galaar benefits from having the fighter based version of the 'Manda' tactical battlenet, allowing it to benefit from sensor and targeting data from not only its fellow fighters but from the rest of a deployed naval formation. Additionally, the crew can benefit from the system's threat tracking and analysis features, allowing them to potentially gain the edge over an enemy combatant in a dogfight because of the system's potential to analysis of the other pilot and craft's capabilities and its following recommendation on how to counter both.
- Low Maneuverability: The Jai'galaar suffers from a lower than standard maneuverability when compared to most other fighters, thus giving it a disadvantage against more maneuverable craft in a close range dogfight, especially if the Jai'galaar is out of missiles.
- Complicated Repairs: The fighter's design is complicated, making maintenance of the fighter a time consuming process that can only be done by those who are familiar with the intricacies of the design and its various subsystems and with the right set of tools available to them.
- Complicated Controls: The Jai'galaar's control suite is complicated enough to require two crewmen, one pilot and one weapons systems officer, but even then both crewmen would certainly benefit from experience as the craft is not entirely forgiving to novice pilots.
- Large: The Jai'galaar is a large fighter, making it easier to acquire and engage for enemy craft than a smaller fighter.
- Outnumbered: Like most Mandalorian fighter craft, and in the particular case of Strill Securities, Jai'galaar pilots often find themselves heavily outnumbered. Naturally, this stems from the low numbers per squadron that they're fielded in.
- Boom: The Jai'galaar carries a lot of ordnance, if a shot penetrates the fighter's armor and reaches the ordnance storage with enough energy left to detonate something, then it's very likely that the fighter will be destroyed entirely in the ensuing detonation of that ordnance and the following sympathetic detonation of the remaining ordnance.
- Not True Stealth: The fighter's stealth suite isn't 'true' stealth given that the fighter can be picked up by visual means as well as gravity and magnetic sensors at closer ranges.
"Sure, if an enemy in half a decent fighter gets on your tail you're going to have a hard time shaking him...but I feel sorry for the poor shabuir who ends up in front of you."
- Squadron Leader Aenarr Kyrr, Strill Securities
The SF/A-03 Jai'galaar-class Stealth Fighter-Bomber is the result of years of research and development into a bomber that required minimal escort from accompanying fighters and could deal significant damage to enemy ships without exposing itself to too much incoming fire. Many of the fighter's subsystems were developed with this fighter and the Kyr'galaar Stealth Multi-role Fighter in mind. The Jai'galaar was developed for use by Strill Securities first, with an export version with reduced capabilities being developed only once all the original orders for the fighter had shipped out to squadrons. The Jai'galaar saw its first real trial by combat during the opening delaying actions during the retreat from Breshig, where they served admirably at the hands of veteran crews.- Squadron Leader Aenarr Kyrr, Strill Securities
Jai'galaars are designed to operate in pairs, with one fighter equipping the mass-driver weapon and the other carrying the ion cannon. This enables the fighters to work together, potentially weakening the shields on enemy ships with barrages of mass-driver rounds and powerful ion cannon shots, all the while potentially unleashing a barrage of missiles from its three launchers and potentially even the wing mounted heavy weapons mounts. Naturally, Jai'galaar fighters don't tend to carry only anti-ship ordnance alone, and carry a mix of anti-fighter and anti-ship ordnance. Any enemy fighter pilot who thinks that a Jai'galaar that has expanded all of its anti-fighter ordnance is an easy target will find themselves on the receiving end of its two RHM-04 Repeating Heavy Mass-drivers or in the case of particularly large fighter craft, its RSM-01 Repeating Super-Heavy Mass-driver or SIC-01 Super-Heavy Ion Cannon.
As is expected of most Mandalorian fighters, the Jai'galaar has strong armor in the form of Stesr'gar-reinforced Stygian-tripsmatic Polymer composite armor, which is reinforced by a Agrinium inner hull mesh liner and Stesr'gar hull plating. The fighter's frame is made from Duranium to save on material cost, given the difficulty of producing a full Stesr'gar hull, hull plate and armor. The canopy is made from a Beskar-Glasteel alloy, making it quite resilient indeed. The fighter's first line of defence however against incoming attacks is its 'Caritr' shield generator, which generates an ion, particle and molecular shield. Given that beskar and as a result Stesr'gar armor does carry some of the force of an impact through, the fighter also features an anticoncussion field generator to lessen the actual impact of incoming kinetic weapons. Finally, when engaged, the fighter has a number of countermeasure systems that it can deploy to potentially avoid incoming missiles and to further harry enemy fighters.
However, the Jai'galaar doesn't rely on its armor alone to protect it from enemy fire. The fighter was designed to give the crew maximum chance to be the ones firing the first shot. This it does by lowering its sensor profile with the use of its powerful electronic warfare suite and low profile engines. At long and medium ranges, the fighter is very difficult to detect, and even at close ranges target acquisition is definitely affected by these features, though not to the degree that would make the fighter a 'true' stealth fighter.
The Jai'galaar benefits from having the fighter based version of the 'Manda' tactical battlenet, allowing it to benefit from sensor and targeting data from not only its fellow fighters but from the rest of a deployed naval formation. Additionally, the crew can benefit from the system's threat tracking and analysis features, allowing them to potentially gain the edge over an enemy combatant in a dogfight because of the system's potential to analysis of the other pilot and craft's capabilities and its following recommendation on how to counter both. Naturally, this does not ensure victory, but every edge over enemy craft makes all the difference in dogfights.
As an added benefit, the fighter's own sensor and comms suite are not only long ranged, but extremely powerful. This ensures effective coordination and target acquisition. In the case of the Jai'galaar, the latter is especially important given that a number of the weapons and ordnance that it can carry are long ranged and require a powerful long ranged system to ensure that they are used to their full capability.
However, as with every fighter, the Jai'galaar is not without its flaws. As heavily armed, armored and fast as it is, the fighter suffers from a lower maneuverability when compared to other starfighters of the time. Given that the fighter is also fielded in smaller squadrons than many other fighters, this can quickly become an issue for outnumbered Strill Securities pilots. The biggest problem for Strill Securities has been the fighter's complicated maintenance, and the difficulty in training new crew for the fighter, and of course there has been some concern over the potential of penetrating shots setting off the considerable ordnance stores aboard the craft. All that said, however, the craft is adored by its pilots at Strill Securities, who simply can't get enough of the sheer amount of firepower placed at their disposal.
