OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To make a low-observability rocket pack for Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and Mandalorians.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Rocket Pack, Hush-about AJP-400, Repulsor Pack
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Sound Baffling & Auditory Dampener: Both sound bafflers and auditory dampeners mean that the jetpack is very quiet, and is usually able to be dismissed as various background noises that exist in an urban environment. In rural areas, this is more of a problem.
  • IR Suppressor Baffled Thrust Manifolds: The exhaust manifolds cool the exhaust gasses, resulting in a lower IR sensor profile. On planets with high temperatures, this feature is automatically disabled.
  • Gyro Stabilized Flight: A gyrostabilizer automatically monitors thrust output and keeps the wearer from spinning out of control, correcting with the repulsor if necessary. Careless flight will result in a diminished stealth profile.
  • Repulsor Flight Systems: In a gravity well, the repulsor pack part of the unit does most of the actual flying, with major vertical and horizontal thrust being provided by the rocket pack.
  • Emergency Repulsor System: Should fuel cut out, the pack's flight computer will engage the emergency repulsor system using the emergency backup power cell (or use the main power feed if its still connected and active) to allow the user a safe descent.
  • Hover Mode: As long as the pack has power and there is local gravity for the in-built repulsor to work with, the unit can hover in place, though doing so will greatly diminish the unit's stealth profile.
  • Emergency Backup Power Cell (10 minute operating time)
  • Range (rocket pack portion): 3 kilometers/20 charges
  • Speed: 160 km/h
  • Maneuverability (rocket pack portion): 160m vertically (1 charge), 80m horizontally (1 charge)
STRENGTHS
  • Stealthy: The rocket pack has a good stealth profile, featuring IR stealth and a reflec coating.
  • Resilient: The rocket pack is made using resilient lightweight materials, allowing it to take a considerable amount of damage from a variety of sources before it's functions are compromised.
  • Enhanced Mobility: The rocket pack features excellent maneuverability and speed, and offers smooth, stable flight.
WEAKNESSES
  • Specialized Training Required: While the jetpack can save even the most idiotic pilot, basic knowledge of rocket pack flight is required. Additionally, careless flying will result in a diminished stealth profile.
  • Not True Flight: Rocket pack flight is not true flight, but rather staying aloft through a series of bursts from the engines. While the repulsors smooth the flight out to a degree, it's far from actual true flight.
  • Vulnerable to EMP/Ion Weapons: Naturally, being reliant on complex electronics, the rocket pack is vulnerable to EMP/Ion weapons. A single strong bolt or blast will be all that it takes to disable main flight functions, kicking in the emergency systems. Breshig War Forge Consolidated has noted rare cases where particularly powerful EMP/Ion weapons have disabled even the emergency systems and caused the operator to plummet toward the ground, often to their death or grievous injury.
  • Power Needed: The rocket pack doesn't come with its own main power supply, only a backup, and requires access to an armor's integrated power supply unit to function optimally.
DESCRIPTION
Noticing how jetpack/rocket pack equipped troops drew attention to themselves with their use, and recognizing that a not insignificant number of casualties could be attributed to increased incoming fire that resulted from using a jetpack. So, the company got working on a low-observability rocket pack. There was some backward and forward on whether to use a jetpack or a rocket pack, but in the end it was decided that the rocket pack's lack of reliance on the presence of local gravity made it a superior choice. However, in order to alleviate the issues of a rocket pack, notably the jarring flight as well as the lower fuel capacity, the team decided that perhaps a hybrid repulsor-rocket pack unit would make for the best combination of speed and fuel efficiency.

Four thrust-vectoring IR suppressed, sound baffled and auditory dampened thrusters gave the unit considerable maneuverability, whilst also being stealthy. The pack was made from lightweight resilient materials, and is mounted along the rear of the user's utility belt, allowing for the user to mount small-medium back mounted equipment. Additionally, to prevent the thrusters from making normal movement awkward, they fold out of the way when not in use. The pack itself was designed for integration with armor that has its own power supply, in order to save weight, the pack doesn't come with it's own main PSU. Armors manufactured by Breshig War Forge Consolidated have their own, but some export customers have complained about this issue.

As with all rocket packs/jetpacks, specialist training is required to operate it, though the jetpack's flight stabilizers can save even the most idiotic and unskilled of pilots. Careless flying, however, will result in a diminished stealth profile. Rocket pack flight is not quite true flight, but rather staying aloft through a series of bursts from the engines. While the repulsors smooth the flight out to a degree, it's far from actual true flight.Naturally, being reliant on complex electronics, the rocket pack is vulnerable to EMP/Ion weapons.
