- Heavy and Versatile Armament: With two repeating heavy mass-driver cannons, two mass-driver ordnance launchers and two modular heavy ordnance mounts, the fighter can carry a wide variety of deadly ordnance, giving it a distinct edge.
- Stealthy: The electronic warfare suite of the fighter and its low-profile engines combined with the stygian-tripsmatic polymer hull plate and reflec coating ensures that the fighter has a very low sensor profile at medium and long ranges, allowing for it to potentially avoid much of incoming fire until it is right on its target.
- Tough: Strong hull, powerful shields and a wide variety of conventional and electronic countermeasures ensure that the fighter is well protected against threats that it might face.
- Fast: With its powerful engines, the Gar Oya'karir can keep up with the craft of most of the organic pilots its meant to serve with.
- Loyal: The Gar Oya'karir will protect its organic wingmen and do everything it can to ensure that they not only complete their objective but live to tell the tale.
- Manda: The Gar Oya'karir has the benefit of having all the features of the fighter based 'Manda' tactical battlenet, ensuring that it still coordinates with other craft even if it only 'attaches' itself to a single squadron.
- Advanced Sensor and Comms Suite: The Gar Oya'karir has an advanced and long range comms and sensor suite, ensuring effective coordination and target acquisition.
- Outnumbered: Gar Oya'karir fighters are typically almost always outnumbered in fighter-to-fighter engagements, just like their organic counterparts. This is of course due to their small squadron count.
- Loyal to a Fault: Gar Oya'karir fighters will follow their organic wingmen's orders to the letter, whether for good or for bad, and even if they know the decision to be a wrong one based on data available to them.
- Data: To truly be useful the Manda needs to be loaded with information on friendly craft, the host ship as well as potential hostiles. Without said data, target identification takes longer and could cause delays in the predictive algorithms as the system has to analyze the target.
- EMP/Ion: While extremely well protected against such weapons, a powerful enough surge through the ship's power grid, or from a personnel grade weapon fired at the housing, can overwhelm its protection and fry the system entirely.
- Quirks: One of the more problematic quirks the system can develop is its hatred of certain targets it might routinely face. A sudden cease fire will not go over entirely well with the system, and there have been cases where Manda modules needed to be rebooted because they refused to break targeting lock of a ship.
- The Force: The system has no defence against force powers that might manipulate it.
- Complicated: The fighter's design is complicated, making maintenance of the fighter a time consuming process that can only be done by those who are familiar with both the fighter itself and the Manda tactical battlenet module.
- Slicers: Unlike the base 'Manda' module, the Gar Oya'karir's controlling 'Manda' module is connected to a comms system. While highly improbable, it is possible for a highly skilled slicer to download a virus to a fighter via its comms system or attempt to gain control of the fighter. Though the latter will be significantly more difficult than the latter.
- Large: The Gar Oya'karir is a large fighter, and while not suffering in maneuverability nor speed, it does mean it is a somewhat easier target to engage for smaller more maneuverable fighters, especially if they outnumber it, as is often the case.
- Not True Stealth: The fighter's stealth suite isn't 'true' stealth given that the fighter can be picked up by visual means as well as gravity and magnetic sensors at closer ranges.
To quote Strill Securities ace Aenarr Kyrr, "Forget a strill. The Gar Oya'karir is the best friend a man can have when at the controls of a starfighter. Well, until they can teach strills to fly, that is." The Gar Oya'karir was designed to complement the often outnumbered pilots of Strill Securities by providing them an additional craft to watch their back and support their offensive strike while also theoretically extended the sensor range and targeting capabilities of their craft. Of course, it was a tall order given the various development projects in the works at the time. The R&D team turned to the already existing highly advanced 'Manda' tactical battlenet system.
Naturally however, the starfighter version of the 'Manda' couldn't just be plugged into a starfighter and be expected to function, nor would it fulfill the task it was expected to. Modifications had to be made. The 'Manda' node was modified so that instead of giving the pilot suggestions, it actually controlled the various main and ancillary systems of the testbed fighter it was installed in. To aid the system in turning it's 'suggestions' into control signals, a specialized subprocessor was added to the system. The team didn't stop there, however. In order to make the new fighter easier to work with, and aware of the flaw where 'Manda' nodes can develop something approximating a personality, the team gave the system a personality matrix and a Mandalorian culture protocol chip.
The additional hardware 'encouraged' the system to develop a personality as it learned from experience, and the final addition of a vocabulator enabled it to interact with its fellow pilots while in the hangar. The intention of this was to invoke a similar relationship between organic and droid wingmen as Basilisk War Droids and their riders. Depending on their experiences and their wingmen, droids developed varying personalities, and other than hardware no two Gar Oya'karir droids were the same. The advantage of this was that even if the organic pilot's fighter didn't have a 'Manda' node, the Gar Oya'karir could still easily share data and aid the pilot in combat.
The real advantage however was when the organic pilot's craft did have a 'Manda' node. In such a case, the Gar Oya'karir became an extension of the pilot's craft, watching their back, and extending sensor and targeting capabilities all the while providing the ease of working with an organic pilot. Gar Oya'karir droids when paired in this manner can pick the exact right moment to intervene in a dog fight, or take a shot their organic counterpart missed and in extreme circumstances they can even sacrifice themselves to save their organic wingmen. The Gar Oya'karir droids will always defer to organic wingmen's orders, but can and will voice their disapproval if they do not follow their organic comrade's line of thought or believe there are factors not taken into account.
Some droids have taken to doing this rather colorfully by cussing at their wingmen in Mando'a and/or basic, which has led to Breshig War Forge Consolidated engineers and maintenance techs asking the pilots to stop teaching the droids foul language, to very little avail. On the subject of the droid's speech capabilities, the droid can speak Basic, Droid Binary and Mando'a by default, but additional language modules can be installed if necessary. On export models, this is specified by the customer on order.
On the subject of the fighter itself, the entire space frame is made out of Duranium and fitted with Stesr'gar hull plating. This makes for a strong, light hull that allows the fighter to reach higher speeds. The armor itself is a Stesr'gar-reinforced Stygian-tripsmatic polymer armor, which makes for a strong, light, stealthy armor composite. A final layer of reflec is applied to the outside of the composite armor, giving the fighter an extremely low sensor profile when combined with the low profile 'Sarutaya' engines installed. Said engines are what give the fighter its impressive speed. The craft's 'Ga'yusr' electronic warfare suite makes the fighter extremely difficult to detect at longer ranges and a pain to fight even at shorter ones. This combination of electronic warfare, speed and resilience allows the fighter to keep up perfectly with the 'Kyr'galaar' Multi-role Stealth Fighter.
Should the fighter sustain damage, it has a quartet of BMD-01 Vhe'viin Battlefield Mechanic droids are stored in a ventrally located compartment to perform battlefield repairs. Given that the droids are capable of repairing significant damage, they can keep the fighter going through all manner of damage, in the very least long enough for the fighter to complete its mission.
The intention behind the fighter's armament was to be versatile without sacrificing on effectiveness or reliability, which it most certainly does. The main armament is a pair of fire-linked RHM-04 Repeating Heavy Mass-driver cannons that come with one drum loaded with HE rounds, one with alternatively ion-detonator and AP rounds and a third with HEIAP rounds. The next weapon system is a pair of fire-linked MMOL-02 modular mass-driver ordnance launchers. The large ordnance capacity of the launcher allows it to carry a variety of deadly ordnance. Finally, the fighter features a pair of modular heavy weapons mounts, with provisions to carry a single assault grade missile on each hardpoint, the ETL-04M energy torpedo launcher, the MRP-01 mass-driver rocket pod or any other equivalent compatible system.
Should the 'Manda' node controlling the fighter go offline, or if the droid knows it is at unavoidable risk of capture, the fighter will activate its self destruct baradium charge. This is done as close to the enemy as possible. Not only does it deny the enemy the chance to study the design, but also denies the enemy access to the fighter's 'Manda' control node.
Due to the popularity of the fighter with Strill Securities pilots, Breshig War Forge Consolidated also developed an export variant that was cheaper to produce and had slightly reduced capabilities when compared to the standard SMFD-02, but is confident that it will be as well received.
