SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Excellent Tracking: The missile's extremely intelligent droid brain compares sensor data from the launch platform that it downloads prior to launch (part of the target acquisition process) to data from its heat detector and energy scanner at long ranges, as it closes in, it extrapolates the target's specific drive and EM signature, at which point it becomes extremely resistant to countermeasures and jamming. The missile will then follow the target till it reaches optimal detonation range or runs out of fuel.
  • Impact Optional: If the missile determines that it cannot reach optimum detonation range before it runs out of fuel, it will instead attempt to reach maximum effective detonation range.
  • Fast and Nimble: The Striilir is an extremely fast and nimble missile, easily able to keep up with most modern starfighters.
  • Low Profile: With a reflec laced fiberplast outer layer, an engine that burns TibannaX, vectrals and etheric rudders instead of traditional attitude thrusters, the Striilir has a very small sensor profile, making it difficult to detect.
  • Resistant: With a duranium frame, reinforced duraplast reinforcement and a fiberplast outer layer the missile is indeed quite resistant to incoming point-defence fire to an extent.
  • Home-on-jam: As a nasty trick, the Striilir possess a home-on-jam protocol, which in the event that it does indeed lose its original target, it will home in on the strongest source of jamming instead.
WEAKNESSES
  • Jamming: Jamming in the earlier stage of target acquisition at long ranges can indeed overload the droid brain and cause it to lose its previously acquired target.
  • EMP/Ion: While resistant to EMP/Ion damage, any damage that does actually get through will fry the missile's circuitry like a protato in a deep-fat fryer.
  • Countermeasures: Any long range countermeasure technology or countermeasures that attack the missile directly are likely to either destroy the missile or cause it to lose its previously acquired target.
  • Volatile: If it takes damage inside the launch tube the missile is likely not only detonate spectacularly, but likely set off other ordnance as well.
  • Sensor Range: The missile's range is very much affected by the range and resolution of the sensor suite of the launch platform, if the launch platform's sensor suite is short ranged then the missile cannot engage that target.
  • Morality/Legality: Given that the droid brain used on this missile is considered by many to be semi-sentient, there are some parts of the galaxy that might frown on the use of this missile, and parts that may do more than frown.
  • Active Sensors: The missile's sensors are active which would definitely give it away, preventing it from being a true 'stealth' missile.
DESCRIPTION
The Striilir was designed as a man-portable ground-to-ground version of the venerable Tra'beviin missile. As such, it is not only issued to ground troops for use with missile tubes but loaded into launches on ground vehicles and droids to give them greater punch against low flying starfighters, airspeeders and hostile armor. When fired, the missile's extremely intelligent droid brain compares sensor data from the launch platform that it downloads prior to launch (part of the target acquisition process) to data from its heat detector and energy scanner at long ranges. As it closes in, it extrapolates the target's specific drive and EM signature, at which point it becomes extremely resistant to countermeasures and jamming. The missile will then follow the target till it reaches optimal detonation range or runs out of fuel. The Striilir is an extremely fast and nimble missile, easily able to keep up with most modern starfighters.

Given the prevalence of jamming technology and other electronic warfare systems on the modern battlefield, the designers at Breshig War Forge Consolidated saw fit to include a home-on-jam feature such as the one on the larger missile that it is based on. When facing heavy jamming such that the missile loses its original target, the computer will instead lock onto the strongest source of jamming and instead direct the missile toward wherever and whatever that might be, unless of course its running a friendly IFF signal. IFF signals however, must be programmed onto the missile prior to launch. Once launched, the missile has no other way of distinguishing friendlies.

Careful attention was also paid to make the missile more survivable. To achieve this, the R&D team behind its creation took a two pronged approach; they wanted to reduce the missile's sensor profile, but also With a reflec laced fiberplast outer layer, vectrals and etheric rudders instead of traditional attitude thrusters, the Tra'beviin has a very small sensor profile, making it difficult to detect. That said, its sensors are active which would definitely give it away, preventing it from being a true 'stealth' missile. On the actual resilience front, a duranium frame, reinforced duraplast reinforcement and a fiberplast outer layer make the missile is indeed quite resistant to incoming point-defence fire to an extent. This also made the missile less susceptible to being prematurely detonated in launch tubes or missile pods.

Naturally however, as advanced as the Striilir is, it's still a missile at the end of the day and is affected by jamming and countermeasures. Another problem is that the baradium warhead used on the explosive variant is extremely volatile, and if it takes damage in the missile tube it might detonate. Finally, while the Tra'beviin is capable of engaging targets at great ranges, the actual range is limited by the range of the sensors on its launch platform.
