Description

The Broadside II is an upgrading of the Imperial Broadside-Class missile corvette of the Galactic Empire. Much like the original broadside, this ship lacks severely in capital battery armament and sacrifices the normal mobility of a Heavy Cruiser in favor of its massive missile armament. Due to the nature of the armament, the Broadside II is a perfect anti-fighter ship that can send hundreds of missiles downrange in a short amount of time while also providing flak-cover. However, due to the massive amount of missiles found on the ship, it also makes for a highly effective anti-capital ship weapon.

With a mixture of concussion and flak fire, a broadside can devastate an unshieded capital-ship of any size by relying on amount of firepower rather than the punch of the firepower itself. Sixty concussion missiles silos and 15 flak-guns firing a broadside at any target is bound to devastate it. The weaknesses come in against ranged and shielded targets. When up against a ship with a powerful particle shield, a single Broadside II will not be enough to damage a capital ship. This is why, if a admiral wishes to use the Broadside II for ship-killer roles, they must be deployed in pairs of two or more. Together, a group of broadside II's firing simultaneous broadsides at a target can overwhelm a ship's particle shields and open it up to more missile and flak-fire.

However, the ships would only be effective in this manner if they are at very close "knife-fight" ranges. Otherwise, the missiles and flak-fire could easily be destroyed by point defense and skilled pilots. All-in-all the Broadside II is a homage to ancient surface-navy warfare that saw ships getting in close in order to devastate the enemy with a single incapacitating barrage. While not exactly the Man-o-War of space, this ship is to feared by any fleeter.

My own concern is that Subach Innes remains a Tier 2 company and I don't know that they would have the production capabilities to make this ship in the numbers you're looking for. If you can find a second manufacturer to support the effort, then I'll stamp it. Otherwise I'll have to ask that production be dropped to minor until such a time as Subach Innes could solely support production.
