  • Brood Telepathic Field - The Acilisk class Starfighter shares a similar link to the Brood - thus enabling it to communicate or otherwise access a similar telepathic field shared by the Blood Queen and the rest of the Brood.

..:: Strengths ::..
---------------------------------------------------------

  • Mass Production - Requiring very little biomass, the Broodling is the most easily produced bioweapon deployed by the Blood Brood. As such - they can be rapidly grown and deployed on the worlds that the Brood is infesting - and can easily be replaced within hours if lost.

---------------------------------------------------------
..:: Weaknesses ::..
---------------------------------------------------------

  • Paper "Men" - Broodlings are relatively weak in terms of armor as they are built for speed and to overwhelm an enemy position with sheer numbers. To this end they are easily dispatched if alone or in small manageable groups. While it may take a few shots from a blaster to bring it down, a well placed heavy slug from a slugthrower seems to tear through them with ease.

Scientific Log - Biological Weapon of Unknown Origin - Entry <data corrupted>

This strange creature appears to be completely biological in nature though shows signs similar to production. Body is covered in a chitinous carapace that offers some manner of protection from the elements < this subject is showing signs of scars from weapons fire > though it appears that they are easily enough dispatched. Its primary means of attack is two large scythe like claws that protrude from the back of the creature < this subject's have been removed for the safety of the scientist studying the creature >

Though those do not appear to be its only means of attack, as evident by the mouth full of razor sharp teeth and the loss of Dr. Liara's hand when she was feeding the creature. The two large horns that curve out from its face appear to be utilized in burrowing, which may explain why this test subject was captured...

Scientific Log - Further Entries Corrupted

The Broodling is the most basic biological weapon produced by the Blood Brood. A small creature that is roughly a similar height and length of a large dog - it prowls on all fours and seems to be able to easily maneuver around nimbly. Large organic scythe like structures protrude from its back - these structures are often brought down upon an enemy and serve as the Broodling's main means of attack. This is not to say that its mouth of razor sharp teeth are useless.

Protruding from the sides of its face - and curling in towards the mouth - are two large horns that serve the Broodling by aiding the weapon in burrowing into the ground of a planet [ a tactic often used by broodlings is to burrow and wait for unsuspecting prey to pass before they burst up out of the ground to strike ].

However they are not as hardy as they appear. Their carapace - while capable of protecting the Broodling from most environments - is otherwise weak. A few shots from a blaster can bring a Broodling down - though the best means is a high calibur slug from a slugthrower - which seem to tear through the creature without a problem.

Their structure though is easily reproduced - meaning that even if they were destroyed - the Blood Brood is capable of rapidly replacing a lost broodling with a minimal expenditure of collected biomass. This means that they can easily overtake an ecosystem within days if not kept in check. If a Broodling is discovered on a world, its safe to say that more are nearby.
