The Galaxy is an extremely dangerous place, and one of the biggest reasons for that are the people who populate it. With the proliferation of Super Star Destroyers, massive fleet buildups by galactic governments such as the Empire, the Brotherhood of the Maw, and even pirate fleets like those of Hutt Space, and even invasions deep into the well-defended deep core, attacking at the heart of the Galactic Alliance, now more than ever it is important for the guardians of ever-so fragile peace and freedom to be outfitted with a wide range of the best tools available to them. It is to that end that several universally renowned starfighter manufacturers in the core, deep core, and colonies, have sought to use the minds of expert fighter pilots to design new platforms and revive legendary ones. One of those manufacturers is Koensayr, and the platform they've sought to revive is the BTL-S8 K-Wing.
While its look is vintage, the BTL-S800 K-wing takes the best attributes of its ancient predecessor, brings them up to contemporary standard, and then improves upon them. The hardpoints have not only been strengthened but have been redesigned such that it is no longer only ordnance launchers and slugthrower cannons that can be mounted but a wide variety of weapons, equipment, sensors, and other systems, allowing for much more flexible use in a military where that flexibility is king. furthermore, the rear laser cannon turret has been outfitted with medium-range ion-cannons.

STRENGTHS
- Rage of the Heavens: To say the K-wing—with its 18 variable-use hardpoints capable of carrying a wide range of weapons and equipment, medium dual laser cannons, and quad turbolaser turret—is heavily armed would be a planet-sized understatement. A smartly-equipped squadron of K-wings is capable of wracking utter ruin on nearly any target which draws their ire or earns their wrath.
- A Bomber of Many Hats: While it's obviously primarily outfitted for bombing and assault roles, the K-wing's 18 Hardpoints allow for it to carry an extremely varied and flexible payload, of course including all sorts of ordnance from conner nets to proton bombs, but also giving it the capability to include a variety of sensor pods, fuel pods, reconnaissance pods, ECM pods, and other accessory units, increasing its utility in a battlespace requiring flexibility.
- SLAM System: Should the K-wing's pilots find themselves in a situation, such as evading a capital's point defenses, where speed would be more useful than the other systems, power can be shunted into the ship's centerline engine, which serves as a SLAM system, massively increasing its speed capabilities for a short time and giving it spine-breaking acceleration.
- Flies Like a Brick: Though officially designated as a Heavy Assault Fighter, the K-wing definitely emphasizes "Heavy" and "Assault" over "fighter." The mass, size, armament, and other systems are such that it has the maneuverability of a flying bantha and, barring the use of the SLAM system, less speed than comparable systems like the Y-wing or B-wing.
- Fast but Vulnerable: Using the SLAM system provides a massive boost of speed, but at a cost. The power used to boost the centerline engine is shunted from the armament, shields, and maneuvering thrusters, meaning that an unwary pilot can very easily find himself in a lethal situation should he use it at an inopportune time.
- Lower Squadron Count: The sheer size of the fighter, coupled with strict maintenance requirements, the massive supply requirements of such a well-armed fighter, and the fuel consumption of such a fighter - especially hyperspace-equipped - proscribes squadrons from being formed at their usual numbers, as carriers and bases are capable of carrying, maintaining, and supplying less of these fighters compared to their peers
