Planetary Background

Odessen is a planet located in the Wild Space region of the galaxy, known for its strong connection to the Force and its rich history. The planet was once home to a highly advanced civilization known as the Architects, who left behind incredible technology and knowledge that has fascinated scholars and explorers for centuries.

After the Architects disappeared, Odessen remained largely unimportant and unsettled until it was chosen as the site of Satele Shan's exile following her failure to defend the Galactic Republic from the Eternal Empire's conquest. During the war against Zakuul, Odessen became the headquarters of the Alliance that opposed the Eternal Empire.

The Alliance base was constructed in secret in the wilderness, where it remained until it was revealed to the Eternal Emperor Arcann by the rogue droid SCORPIO. Despite the revelation of the Alliance's location, they won two major battles against the Eternal Empire in the Battle of Odessen, establishing it as a place of great strategic significance in the galaxy.

Following the Eternal Empire's defeat and the establishment of the Eternal Alliance, Odessen became the capital of the new government. The planet underwent a period of rapid growth and development, with new institutions and technologies being established to serve the needs of its inhabitants.

But that is truly ancient history. Newly arrived on Odessen, Taiia Locke leads a small team with a singular goal to scout for a suitable location to build upon Taiia’s dream. Odessen existed much like herself in balance in the force. Odessen however is not without its dangers or its secrets and she and the others coming with her would have to brave them.

-- Background End

The soft blue and black hues of hyperspace whirled past the ship as Taiia’s green eyes looked into the void ahead of them. Allyson Locke Allyson Locke was off in the core again doing what she did. Taiia as usual never questioned, only asked her to be careful and send her a holo when she could. Being so close to Allyson made her only want to divert to go find her but, like her, Taiia had a job to do one that she had commissioned herself. For years as Taiia grew her understanding of the force under the tutelage of many fine masters within the Confederacy, she came to the conclusion that what she had learned needed to be taught away from the confines of governing bodies or fanatical orders.

Knowledge should be shared, freely. Over the years Taiia had been devoted to study not just of the force but also its history and origins. She had learned from Sith, Jedi, Nightsisters and even going as far to join a Jedi training session on Manaan with the Order of Shasa. Overtures were even made to the Matukai but they were disinterested, she understood why and held no grudge. Taiia slipped a hand up and tucked a wild crimson hair back behind her hair as the alarm began to sound that they were exiting hyperspace.

The blue and black swirl of hyperspace gave way as the ship lurched while it returned to normal space, a massive planet of vast green forests and oceans that seemed to cover almost every inch of its surface. The massive planet replaced the chaos of hyperspace in the cockpit window. She smiled as she took in the sights of the planet before tapping on the controls to release the autopilot, she would begin her descent space giving way to sky as her ship pierced the clouds and she looked into the deep valleys and rolling plains below looking for a suitable landing site.

Ahead of her arrival she had sent word to Strill Securities as well as some of her other associates to meet her on Odessen, the significance of this world would soon skyrocket. Finally locating a suitable location the aging YT-2400 settled gently into soft ground, the landing struts sinking ever so slightly but not enough for concern. The redhead began the power down sequence and then stood from her chair as she reached for a green cloak on the back of the pilots chair, quickly throwing it around herself as she made for the exit ramp.

It wasn't often that Ruus ventured out to this part of space. Neither of his two experiences, either at Kayrii III nor at Rhand were ones he was keen on repeating. Mandalorians, however, did not turn their back on old friends, especially not those they had shed blood and bled alongside. The Knights Obsidian was a name he'd never expected to hear again. Not after the collapse and exodus of the CIS. Yet here they were, out in the middle of shabla nowhere, ready to help.

"Locke, she's the one that married that GA Jetii aru'hutuun, isn't she?" inquired Aamer absent mindedly over comms as they made their descent through the planet's atmosphere.

"I think that's her," nodded Ruus in agreement. "One of the good ones. Didn't have that di'kutla 'we're jetii so we're better than you' attitude."

"We didn't cart all this equipment out here for a shabla reunion did we?" asked Mirta in typical faashion. "There can't be many if any more of those death worshipping dini'la shabuire left. This isn't about to turn into a standard KO joint op, is it?" she asked, rferring to how invariably when they used to join the KO on opersations things almost always took a turn for the decidedly bizarre and occasionally distrubing.

"Not as far as I know or I'd have told you two to hand out the birikade," sighed Ruus. "All I know is we're helping set up an academy where they're going to teach the force to ad'ike so they don't grow up to be di'kute with an attitude."

"Well, we're about to find out," pointed out Aamer. Ruus glanced at the tactical map and nodded to himself. They were almost at the RV. Their escorting Jai'galaar fighter-bombers peeled off. The twelve assault transports dipped below the cloud cover. Ruus saw the landscape below through the external camera view for the first time. It was quiet for now. Something about this place bothered him. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he'd long learned not to ignore his warrior's intuition.

The transport made its final approach, a sensation that Ruus was so used to that he paid it no mind. It was only when he heard the thunk of the transport settling on its landing claws did he raise the others, "Ke'gyce 6 to Marev and Shereshoy callsigns, keep your heads on a swivel. All goes well, this is just a construction operation." No sooner than the ramp had hit the ground did Jintar roll the tank out of the transport, stopping short of the ship that was parked there, and the woman who was waiting.

"I'm going outside, keep me posted," Ruus called to Jintar and Ghes as he opened the commander's hatch and popped out, climing down the tank before walking over. Ruus extended an armored gauntlet out in greeting, "Colonel Kote, Strill Securities. It's good to see you again. Now, we heard you needed some help."
Marev and Shereshoy began unloading behind him, IFVs, tanks and infantry unloading sensor equipment and prefabricated structures for temporary accommodation till sonething more permanent could be erected.

Taiia had barely stepped off the ship when she heard the roar of the engines from the descending vessels, she looked up at them carefully shielding her eyes against the sun a soft chuckle escaped her lips and she shook her head, Strill looked ready for a war but then that's why she called them, because they always got the job done. she waited patiently as one after another their transports landed and began to offload, most force users would likely be unnerved being the only force user surrounded by Mandalorian's Taiia however had fought along side this group on many occasions, to say she trusted them would be an understatement.

She stepped lightly toward the growing number of of personnel and machinery being unloaded, from one of the tanks they had brought popped a familiar helmet, followed by voice, the redhead grinned and walked toward the tank. "Su cuy'gar ogir." she called a greeting in Mando'a she firmly grasped his hand. "It's good to see you again Colonel, it's been far too long thank you for coming. I assume Strill has been keeping you busy?" When he queried her about help she simply nodded as a few red strands of hair fell from beneath her hood.

"Quite right, as I mentioned I plan to build a school here. I would like you to consult on location, defensibility seismic stability basically all around viability for a few buildings with room to grow." she pulled a holo out of her robe and activated it, it cycled between a few different locations she had picked out. "These are by no means the only locations I would consider, these are just the ones that looked good to me. But I am no expert in such things" she held out the holo to Ruus to take with him.

"I would also like a threat assessment from any indigenous flora and fauna, can't very well build a school in the midst of man eating plants or something can I?" she grinned a bit at that.

"Doing charity work out in the Rim for the most part. Well, basically charity work," he said in response to Strill keeping him busy, pausing for a moment as he corrected himself. "Got to go on a good old fashioned hunting trip to New Cov recently. We brought tanks," he added with an amused snort. "I'm going to regret saying this, but I almost miss all the osik we got up to with the Knights Obsidian." Well, almost. Things were certainly a lot quieter he certainly didn't have as much adrenaline, stims and adrenal pumping through his system as he used to. Upside was he got to spend a lot more time with his riduur and ad'ike.

Ruus listened carefully as Taiia outlined what she intended to do and where he and his fit in. He glanced over at the various locations, using his armor's comms to bounce a signal back up to the Beviins back up in orbit via their heavy assault transports. Unimpeded, comms traffic moved quickly and so he got his orbital scans of the various locations relatively quickly. Ruus quickly flitted through the scans, assessing them for their various qualities. Seismic data from orbit wouldn't be a hundred percent accurate, but he could narrow down the locations based on the other parameters and worry about precise seismic stability once they were on site.

The most promising location he found on cursory glance seemed to be on a plateau not far from their current location. Plateau's offered excellent visibility, high ground defensive advantage and were difficult to tunnel under. That was when he saw the site by the river. "It's either the river or the plateau if you ask me. I have a feeling I know which one you're going to pick," he said. A slight smile flickered across his features under his buy'ce. "Sure as haran can't. I'll have my scout commander give me an assessment once we arrive on site."

She laughed as Ruus recounted his adventures "Hunting trip with tanks, sounds like Mandalorians alright." shaking her head slightly as he recalled the outings with the Knights Obsidian,. The redhead cocked her head slightly and inclined an eyebrow. "Ruus my friend I think you may have hit your head too many times. Don't get me wrong I miss the Knights Obsidian but I think I can handle not having any galaxy ending horrors or supernatural beings with a god complex." the smallest smirk played at the corners of her lips, while there was truth to what she said part of her missed it too.

As the conversation moved to her designs for a school and the location she watched silently as Ruus analyzed the data given. She waited patiently for his assessment before he spoke again.

"It's either the river or the plateau if you ask me. I have a feeling I know which one you're going to pick,
She placed a hand to her lips in a mock shocked expression "Oh dear, am I becoming that predictable?" a broad grin touched her lips and she nodded. "Road trip it is, I never tire of this planet." she lept up onto the tank and took a seat ontop of it, tucking her cloak neatly beneath her. "Yes Ruus I know there are seats inside but the view is better out here." she quipped guessing his thoughts before he could interject.

Ruus let out a hearty chuckle at her comment that a hunting trip with tanks was very Mandalorian, and then another at the mention that he might have hit his head one too many times. "You and my wife would agree on that last part," he chuckled in response. As the conversation shifted topics, Ruus once more was grateful that at least someone with their head on right was going to be teaching the galaxy's force users that there was more to life than presuming oneself to be the greatest gift to the galaxy and being laden with all the entitlement that came with, not to mention the after affects of both. He'd seen the aftereffects of multiple flavors of force user training and to say that he was less than impressed was an understatement to beat them all.

"Only in that the plateau's the smart choice if the survey data's accurate," he said as he clambered onto his tank and then slid in through the hatch into the commander's position, staying turned out. "You heard the lady, Ghes, get us moving, we're burning daylight," Ruus called into the hatch rather than over comms for Taiia's benefit. Naturally, they had some of the best kit to be seeing at any lighting level, but somehow Ruus got the feeling that he didn't want to be traversing terrain on this planet at dark. "Long as you don't send me the bill, my ad'ike are at the age where they're eating my paycheck before I can deposit it."

The convoy pushed on, heads still on a swivel but largely still more at ease. She had a point, this planet sure was beautiful. In some ways, it reminded him of Jaro'yaim, except that for the moment they weren't being stalked by apex predators who had over the years developed a taste for hunting would be Mandalorian hopefuls. Well, in so far as they'd seen, however, though they were hardly young ad'ike yet to prove themselves as having learned the things necessary for adulthood.

The river was the closer site if only by virtue of being lower in elevation than the plateau it preceded. The convoy rolled in relative silence, with the sound of periodic calls of 'utre'la over the comms. "So, this school, how are you going to go about getting students? Won't the jetii take offense at what you're doing?" Ruus was asking for more than the sake of idle curiosity and to make conversation, rather to ascertain the extent of defensive measures that would need to be set up.

She laughed at the comment and smiled, "Your wife is a smart woman, it sounds like. I think we might get along." Without any further delay, Ruus gave the command to get the Mandalorian column moving, and she simply sat, enjoying the view.

"Send you a bill when you are doing me a favor? That would be rather rude." She chuckled. For the first time, she withdrew her hood and let her face feel the warmth of the sun.

When he asked about the school, she simply smiled and began to speak at length with a passion for it. "I plan to teach people a different way. The Force is not about light and dark. Much like a Mandalorian uses a blade or a blaster, it is a tool. It isn't evil or good. It is how you wield it. The difference is that this tool is alive and has a will of its own. You can fight against it, or you can embrace it and become one with it."

Her features betrayed her enthusiasm as she continued, "I want my students to understand that the Force is a living entity. It can guide you, shape you, and help you find your true path. Too many people get caught up in the dichotomy of light and dark, but it's much more nuanced than that. It's about balance and understanding, about finding harmony within oneself and with the Force. I believe that by teaching this approach, we can create a new generation of Force users who are wiser and more attuned to its true nature."

She paused, looking out at the landscape, her face serene. "The Force is a gift, and like any gift, it should be used wisely and with respect. That's what I hope to impart to my students: a sense of responsibility and reverence for the power they wield."
