The mystery of how and where C-3PO acquired his red arm seen in 'The Force Awakens' has been revealed in 'Star Wars: C-3PO #1' by James Robinson, Tony Harris and Joe Caramagna.

If you are planning to read this, obviously SPOILERS for the story follow in the link.

[member="Atin Vendet"] Ha! That's beautiful, though I'm fairly certain 3PO isn't exactly the gloating type... more like cower in fear and 'Let the Wookie win'. :p

Oh yeah, I saw this a little earlier today. I love the idea of an expanding consciousness of an artificial intelligence. Kurzweil eat your heart out. After reading this, I became quite inspired for a new character or two, that I may or may not indulge in.

For sure, it's great to ponder. We have theories of transhumanism - 'forcibly' evolving a human/organic into a hybrid with technology, i.e. a cyborg or something of that ilk - but what about 'transrobiticism'? Adding consciousness and organic elements (such as an organic brain) to a droid or computer intelligence. Both concepts strive towards the same middle-point, only from the two polar opposite ends of the spectrum. Makes you wonder how it would differ in results.

Indeed. Or is that simply a part of his programming? It's so difficult to tell. What is a digitally-functional machine but 0s and 1s? I think the real level of consciousness starts to come from self-derived initiative. So far, 3PO only seems to operate through service, but that's what he is meant to do. Omri seems like the next step from that... so who knows what could follow?

Complete self-aware, self-functioning, self-sufficient sentience? *prays for The Matrix in the SW universe*

Those are the super complicated questions many try to answer, I'm sure. Might just be his programming, or maybe he actually built it up. It's quite interesting to see them still be friends even after their memories are wiped.

Totally, there's something in that for sure. I suppose everything has a resonance that works with the frequency of others, that draws A to B and B to A. A very human trait. And 3PO and R2 clearly exhibit some kind of emotion. In the SW universe, it seems that the level of technology is already well on a path of total digital sentience... all that's really needed is that merging into and collation with organic matter.

Dammit, I'm going to have to make some kind of character inspired by all this. Good mental gymnastics!
