Description: In the aftermath of the Dark Harvest, critiques were made concerning the Protectorate's military response and flexibility. One critique stemmed from a lack of troop mobility. Although dropships were often sufficient to begin landing forces on the ground, their need to return to the ship to ferry more troops down left troops rather immobile. So, drawing on the success of the Peregrine-class and its turbine engines, as well as the venerable CR25 Troop Transport, the C/T 400 was built.
Eschewing previously attempted methods of ground transport, deeming such craft cumbersome and too limited by the terrain, the C/T 400 holds itself aloft with a high-powered repulsorlift while four massive turbine engines propel the craft forward. In keeping with its role as a large troop transport, the C/T 400 can carry upwards of 144 troops comfortably, as well as carrying a dozen speeder bikes and several landspeeders. Capable of deploying from a low altitude, troops and the vehicles deploy from a large loading bay that lowers from the craft's underside. Moderately armed, the transport is not designed for sustained combat and would rather deploy its forces and retreat from the battlefield.
A command variant of the transport exists. Forgoing the vehicle bays and extensive troop capacity, the C/T 400c employs sophisticated mapping and sensor equipment, as well as a suite of ECM and ECCM devices, designed to support troops and ensure control is maintained over large areas. As well, the standard transport has a flight ceiling of roughly two kilometers. The C/T 400c has a flight ceiling nearly five times that, in large part due to a lack heavy vehicles to weigh it down.
