SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Doonium barrel means that the weapon almost never suffers damage from its own launching or fire sequence. A shell could go off inside of the gun and there’s still a reasonable chance it would be functional afterward.
  • Weighty emplacements mean that the artillery gun cannot be easily shifted or stolen by interlopers. It cannot be moved at all without mechanical assistance by a normal individual, or substantial telekinetic ability from a Force User.
  • Modularity of the barrel system means that the weapon can target either objects on the other side of the battlefield, or may be set to perform a more mortar-esque duty, providing a significantly higher rate of fire on a closer target.
  • Quickloader mechanism automatically shifts a new shell into place about 7 seconds after firing on long-stock, or about 3 seconds after on short-stock. The Quickloader must be manually loaded by an artillery crew, but this can be done while the remainder of the weapon is in operation.
  • While targeting systems may be used in tandem with the weapon, it is entirely mechanical by nature and can be used without any electronics.

STRENGTHS
  • Hardened Barrel - The Doonium barrel of the C22 Tatthel is extremely hardened against damage from misfiring inside of the weapon. Even if a shell were detonated inside the barrel, there is a reasonable chance that the debris could be cleared out and the weapon could be fired again as if nothing happened.
  • Mechanical - The C22 Tatthel is completely immune to EMP or Ion damage as it possesses no built-in electronics or devices.
  • Interchangeable Munitions - The C22 Tatthel is designed to use a variety of shells as long as they have been sized for the 120mm gun. This gives it a degree of tactical variability that can be vital on the battlefield.

WEAKNESSES
  • Emplacement - The C22 Tatthel is an emplaced artillery gun, and has no mobility on its own. In order to reposition it, cargo walkers, cranes, or other mechanical assistance has to be provided externally. This is always a slow process meaning that the cannons cannot retreat speedily, or advance to new positions without assistance.
  • Human Element - While true of most weapons, the C22 Tatthel relies almost exclusively on its crew in order to function since even its firing and targeting are done manually. Shoot the artilleryman doing all the calculations, and the gun is useless. Snipers and infiltrators are thus an extreme threat to the crew.
  • Sighted - The size of the C22 Tatthel and the fact that its firing is a thunderous noise mean that it can be located by even amateurs with relative ease.
  • Physical Shells - The 120mm shells fired by the C22 Tatthel could be intercepted if there was an adequately designed system in place to lock onto the fast-moving shells. Sufficiently advanced countermeasures may be able to totally nullify the efforts of the gun; this would not include ECCM or jamming - the shells do not lock onto a target.

DESCRIPTION

The C22 Tatthel was designed by the laboratories of the Area 14 workgroup on behalf of the Empire of the Lost. It was designed in order to fill a gap in domestically produced artillery cannons for the army of the Empire with discussions with several veteran artillery officers and crewmen going into the development to help create a usable weapon.

The Tatthel was designed to be operated by a crew of eight led by a Sergeant. The other crewmen perform duties as loaders, calculators, mechanics, and other assistants. It is not uncommon for each individual to do multiple different roles, but usually, each crew has at least one expert for each step of the operation.

The Tatthel was named after the leading Grand Moff of the Empire of the Lost. Whether this naming was a sign of honor or a sign of subtle rebellion is a matter of opinion, especially given Grand Moff Tathiel’s more peaceable policies and diplomatic efforts, regardless, the cannon’s name stuck and it was put into production.
