*bows* Good evening, my fellow writers. On the recommendation of a very good and old friend, I have come to join your fair community.

I'm an old hand at this role playing business. For the better part of twenty years I've been writing, and a fairly significant amount of that time was spent at another Star Wars board. I'll be 'restarting' that character here, with my added years of experience. Hopefully, it'll be a bit better than what fifteen year-old me thought was cool. :p

So, if you'll have me, I'm honored to be here. ^_^

Thank you.

I believe I may have messed up. I named this 'Writer' account what I intended my character to be called; now when I go to create a character subaccount, it says the user name is taken. I take it I can't just write from this main account? Am I misunderstanding?

Welcome small child!(cause your new to Chaos, its funny) I hope you enjoy your time at Chaos!

You can openly write from your writer account if you so desire. If you want a name change, go to character creation and then the rank titles section and ask for a name change. Hope this helps!

Ah, thank you both for the help. Okay, I guess I'll start about creating my character bio.

I notice several Jedi factions. As I intended to make a Jedi, are there any major differences I ought to know about?

I'd like to start this character off as a young teen, write an RP or three with him as a Padawan to get a 'feel' for him. Is there an established way for moving up the ranks, or is it based wholly on character growth? The site I frequented years back was very structured in its rank system; you basically couldn't progress unless the majority of the faction agreed to it. I'm simply curious if it's the same way here.

Thank you all for your patience with me.

There's no site-wide established system, no standardised hoops to jump through to progress from rank to rank. It is growth, but it's also activity. Be present in your threads, be sure to complete them, and keep track of them - most every faction with Force Users has a thread tracking template they suggest using. Beyond that, judgement of your character's readiness to move from Padawan to Knight is between you and your character's trainers, and the promotion is done at that level.

Following that, keep tracking your threads, continue to be active, continue to be present. When the time comes, Knight to Master readiness is voted upon first by the masters of your faction, then passed on to the Roleplaying Judges to vote on. Pass that, and your character is granted Master rank.

Any other questions? Do ask them. :)

Thank you for the rundown. Just need to explore the site, and figure out how to format my posts. If it's an option, can I set it up to be WYSIWYG? I'm not seeing it in the settings.

Profile's done, at least for the moment, so tomorrow I'll work on an opening role play post. Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Chaos! I hope you find what you're looking for. I'll leave defining the two Jedi factions to the more appropriate representatives. But if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask :)

Enjoy your stay!

Hello and welcome! Hope you have fun here! :)

I believe the reply box is, by default, WYSIWYG, so don't worry. The little 'switch' button in the top left corner is for switching between code view and WYSIWYG view, though.

There are several Jedi orders here, indeed. The Galactic Republic's Jedi Order is the vanilla Jedi, seen from the films and whatnot. The Silver Sanctum Coalition's Jedi is more about adventuring, driving out darkness, a lot of cooperation and storytelling. The difference between the two is mostly about OOC matters, though. A long time ago, the Silver Jedi split from the Galactic Republic due to some decisions the GR made and now they've sticked to being separate.

There's third more major Jedi order, though, and that is the Galactic Alliance's New Jedi Order, which is heavily militaristic. It is mostly aggressive, really goal-driven and really wants to drive out the Dark Side from the galaxy. Of course you can be more pacifistic as well, because there are several people like that in the faction. But in its essence, the Galactic Alliance is mostly about war. It is a rather drama-free faction and really easy to get into, whereas the former two can be a little bit more difficult.

The Galactic Republic has been really active, but has kind of lost its spark recently, so they would need help. The Silver Jedi are a more specific group of people, really friendly folks and kind of stick together, not interacting with other factions as much as some others do. The Galactic Alliance is the newest of the three and has a very active membership, as well as a ton of freedom in RP.

Hope that cleared some things up. :)

Thank you for the warm welcomes, everyone!

Man, each of the Jedi factions sound appealing. For this character, though, it sounds like the Silver Sanctum or the Galactic Alliance is most appropriate. The overall idea for this character's story is his struggle against the Darkside; it comes very naturally to him, but he cannot reconcile himself with the Dark. Ultimately, his heart belongs to the Light, even if it tears his mind apart in the process.

The original iteration of this character saw him become VERY militaristic over time, as that was sort of the nature of that particular board. I'm looking for him to be more of a Sentinel this time around, an adventurer, so I'll probably run with the Silver Sanctum.

Should I join said faction before posting my introduction RP? I'm wanting to start off being discovered by the Jedi.
