Cal's public face is an affable, affectionate and caring politician who fights for the will and needs of his people, and it has one he has striven to maintain whenever cameras are around, or he is on public display. Much of his persona is true however, Cal has fought vehemently for the will of his people, and behind closed doors has been known by a few to be ruthless in his efforts. Though no evidence exists, there are rumours that Cal has been involved in blackmail, and all sorts of threats and lies in order to pass certain legislations or have decisions made.Cal is confident in his abilities to get done what is needed, and that confidence has worked to inspire others. [SIZE=10.5pt]Born to a farming family on Ord Mirit, Cal Tamplin had a rough childhood, with a drunk and abusive father - from a young age, Cal was forced to take a position protecting his mother, even though it usually resulted in the boy being hurt or beaten himself. Though he never particularly became strong enough to fight back against his father, he always stepped in whenever his father was drunk, usually giving his mother enough time to leave or get help. By the time that Cal had finished his secondary schooling, his father had been arrested and his parents divorced, the young Cal now living alone with his mother. Using the money which had been gained from a settlement following a court case against his father, Cal's mother chose to send the young boy to Coruscant for a university education.[/SIZE][SIZE=10.5pt]It was at university, while studying a double degree in Science and Law, that Cal first became involved in the political sphere. Eventually running for and becoming the head of the Student Representative Council, and later Union Board, Cal maintained a busy and relatively well-known position among his fellow peers, and it was not long before he drew the attention of politicians in the Galactic Alliance, eventually being introduced to, and progressively mentored by the Coruscanti Senator to the Galactic Alliance, a man by the name of Galn Alme. Alme took on Cal as a political aid, and through the later years of his education, Cal worked closely with Alme's campaign to ensure his mentor was elected once more.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=10.5pt]Graduating a year later, Alme manipulated many of his fellow Senators into supporting Cal's bid to become a senator representing Ord Mirit, regardless of the fact the planet was technically considered independent from the Galactic Alliance. Eventually with enough pressure and manoeuvring, the decision was made and Cal became one of the youngest senators in the Galactic Alliance. Throughout the earlier years of his career, Cal developed connections and friends whom he would call on later, broadening his horizons and connecting with individuals all across the Alliance, from the military, political parties, and even within the New Jedi Order. At the age of Forty, long after his mentor Alme had retired from politics, that Cal began to work on getting certain individuals elected, his grander designs and plans progressively coming to fruition as he worked on drawing more and more of the Senate to his side. It was at this point, when Cal's darker side began to become known.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=10.5pt]Through bribery, blackmail, and some would rumour possibly even murder, by the time Cal turned fifty-five, many members of the Senate had been elected to their positions following the efforts and influence of Cal, and many individuals in the military and other organizations had strong connections with and support for the aspiring senator. It was on his fifty-fifth birthday that Cal made a rousing speech which became memorialized in the Galactic News Network's aptly titled piece - "Treason in the Senate?" - declaring a new political party and faction within the Galactic Alliance, calling for major, sweeping reforms which would change the face of the Galactic Alliance entirely.[/SIZE]
