  • Electromagnetic Control: An ECM array allows the Caldoth-class to exert influence over the electromagnetic environment in a given battlespace, giving the craft a range of capabilities that add additional utility.
  • Guns: A heavy, robust armament gives the Caldoth the ability to punch above its own weight, whether it be through high-explosive bombs, missile salvos, gravitational discharges capable of rending hulls apart, or piercing heavy beams. Even capital ships are well within the envelope of targets that the craft represents a credible threat to.
  • Amphibian: The life support systems, electromotive field motors, and hydrostatic fields allow the Caldoth to traverse underwater and remain submerged for an indefinite period of time. In a pinch, this function could be used to hide from pursuing enemy forces or even to initiate a surprise attack!
  • Low Profile: The Caldoth-class has coatings on its hull which effectively lower the craft’s sensor profile and render it more difficult to distinguish against the backdrop, thereby making it harder to register and lock onto at range. However, this does not approach true stealth capability, since it does not grant true sensor or sensory invisibility.
  • Field Disruption: The Caldoth-class's field disruption system allows the craft to physically bypass a large warship's shielding so that it might fire directly on the hull. While this feature is limited in practical application to large vessels with conventional and non-conformal shielding, it is nonetheless a powerful technique that a skilled pilot could take advantage of to potentially lethal effect.
  • Main Battle Bomber: The Caldoth-class has heavy, advanced armor and defensive systems, allowing it to quite convincingly withstand withering point-defense fire, direct missile strikes, and yet more attacks to deliver its payload to the target.

  • Automation: The Caldoth-class is supported by a suite of automated processes which govern its targeting systems, power systems, flight control systems, and yet more. In the event that these systems are somehow disabled, whether via EMP/Ion discharge, concentrated slicing, or in rare cases, jamming, the operating efficiency of the craft will be negatively affected.
  • Sensitive Passive Sensors: The passive sensor array on the hull of the Caldoth-class is an extreme boon to the pilot’s battlespace awareness, especially in conditions where the use of active sensors may reveal the craft’s location. However, they are also very vulnerable, as even glancing blows can destroy or disable the sensors on or around the affected areas. In essence, as the hull takes more hits, the Spyglass’ passive reception array will become increasingly ineffective.
  • Low and Slow: Unfortunately, the Caldoth's heavy armor and robust armament gives the craft a lot of inertia. Thus, the bomber is slow and quite lacking in maneuverability for a small craft platform, forcing the pilot to be very deliberate in controlling the craft to ensure that they are not isolated and surrounded by fast interceptors and superiority fighters.
  • Charge Out: The field disruption system disables the Caldoth's shields during the period of its activation.
  • Straight and Narrow: The coaxium injection feature of the ion engines provides a significant boost to speed and acceleration, but it compromises maneuverability while active.

An advancement on the Jurgoran-class Sith Bomber, the Caldoth is another in the series of continually improving military tech employed by the Sith. A pair of sharp forked angular solar panel wings flank a squat body, replete with several weapon systems and heavy shielding, rounding out a menacing profile that was visually distinct in both space and atmosphere.

The Caldoth was outfitted with a vast array of weaponry, perfectly suited for short and long-distance bombing campaigns. A pair of forward-facing heavy beam cannons were the standard anti-starfighter weaponry, capable of automatic, stutter, and single fire at the flip of a switch. Twin turret-mounted gravity generators, technological equivalents to the Yuuzhan Vong dovin basal, could fire miniature gravitational singularities which could wreak havoc on starship hulls and shields. The Caldoth was also outfitted with a menagerie of ordnance launchers, such as a heavy missile launcher, two standard-sized missile launchers, and four swarm missile launchers. These launchers could be outfitted with almost any missile munitions.

The primary feature of the Caldoth was its bomb bay, which was located on the underside of the bomber. It could hold a large number of bombs, which it used to drop on enemy vessels, fortifications, and population centers.

A single pilot is enough to handle the Caldoth, although in indirect emulation of their enemies the Sith have begun to advance the theme of integration between pilot and machine. The Caldoth pilot wore a neural interface, effectively melding their minds with the machine via a Ghost Link. This allowed the pilot to work seamlessly with the bomber, with well-trained operators being able to operate multiple systems simultaneously. However, most crew complements include a weapon System Specialists to ease the mental and neurological load on pilots who were not always mentally conditioned enough to get the full use out of the Ghost Link. Likewise, the inclusion of specialized drone brains further elevated the operational effectiveness of individual Caldoth craft and their squadrons.

The cockpit was state-of-the-art, replacing the two-handled yoke of previous fighters with two independent control columns with levered handgrips. These columns offered a higher range of motion and control over the starfighter, with strong haptic feedback allowing the pilot to maintain a greater sense of their surroundings. The Mk. II version of the Caldoth notably includes programmable matter controls and ergonomics, so pilots and operator may elect to configure the cockpit with virtually any control scheme.

The Caldoth was equipped with an energy shield that protected the craft from conventional energy, solar ionization energy, ionic energy, and physical particulates. The energy shield was simultaneously polarized to allow the craft’s laser cannons and missile launchers to bypass through the interior of the shield while keeping anything from bypassing the exterior of the shield.

Unlike the Jurgoran-class bomber, the Caldoth was equipped with a hyperdrive and a path engine. This allowed the Caldoth to act independently from carriers, operating as rapid-response squadrons along an ever-shifting chaotic border with the Kainate's various enemies. The Caldoth could also be used in a predatory role, moving swiftly behind enemy lines and preying on supply convoys and less defended targets and melting away before enemy reinforcements arrived.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the Caldoth was its Field Disruptor system. This system, when activated, allowed the Caldoth to physically bypass deflector shields of capital ships and planets to attack them directly. However, when the Field Disruptor system was activated it deactivated the Caldoth's shielding, rendering the craft vulnerable to enemy fire until deactivated. The Field Disruptor system also could not bypass non-conventional shielding like molecular shields and xythan force shields.

Phoenix Ion Engines propelled the Caldoth through the void of space, fine-tuned for exceptional and efficient energy output that pushed the fighter past what was considered normal speed without a great detraction in maneuverability. The engines’ coaxium injection feature allows the bomber to entirely sacrifice maneuverability for extraordinary speed at the pilot's discretion. This sudden burst of speed was achieved by a brief injection of an extremely small amount of coaxium directly into the ion engine's fuel system.
