Private Call to my Cause

Change.
It was never an easy thing to sacrifice or abandon the things you've grown used to in favor of something entirely new. It came with risk and required great determination to fully commit to the new route, and see it through until the end. But perhaps stronger than ever before, Valery felt her change in direction had been the right call to make. It was as if every part of the Galaxy and the Force had guided her down this path to use her skills on the frontlines again, rather than within the Shadows. But a better Galaxy wasn't secured only by being a sword against darkness.
It required those defending the peace to not forget and abandon what they were fighting for in the first place. Those with experience and leadership qualities were responsible for guiding the younger generations to understand this and to allow them to carry these same lessons into the future. For this reason, Valery could never stress more the importance of training Padawans and being an approachable source of guidance.
This is what brought her to Corellia.
After taking some time to research, she had learned about a Jedi Master who she wanted to gather to her cause. He was of the Corellian Green Jedi, a group she did not have extensive experience with. But she had a good feeling about this meeting and whether or not she'd be successful, there was something new she could learn today.
So in an attempt to request an audience, a message was sent out.
Master Greystar,
I'm Jedi Master Valery Noble of the New Jedi Order.
I am contacting you because I'd like to request an audience to discuss the future of the Jedi, and our views on it.
The ongoing wars in the Galaxy have left many souls shattered, and the danger of Jedi straying from their path is ever increasing.
I was hoping to discuss this with you in greater detail, and make a request in person that may help handle this problem.
Perhaps we can meet on Corellia?
I look forward to hearing your response.

I await your arrival eagerly Master Noble. It has been some time since the last visit we had from the New Jedi Order. We will receive you at your leisure.

Life Day had come and gone. A new Galactic Standard year was on the horizon, though Corellia had already seen their new year nearly a standard month earlier. Despite that, it seemed as if Coronet had been packed with visitors from across the Galaxy since the month began as families began to prepare for Life Day, and later, the Coruscanti New Year. Even the Saber was in higher spirits than normal. Well, everyone outside of Dahlinar's class.

"Shape up," he said with a smack from a training saber. "Your back's too stiff. Your knees are too loose." The Saber had begun as an enclave, a place where the average citizen of Corellia could see their shining light and know that the Jedi watched over them. It was in a part of Coronet that was easily accessible meaning Jedi services were as well. Compared to their more traditional temple up in the mountains. Some said the temple was just as symbolic a place as the Saber, the Corellian Jedi braving this new and changed Corellia, paving the way for further colonization. Over the years though, few people had returned the beautiful but deadly spires of floating volcanic rock.

Now, most of the Corellian Jedi that remained didn't even call the temple home. Instead, they floated around the Sector in starships or called the Saber their home. What had once been a symbol of hope was now a dusty ruin patrolled by droids. Coronet was where the party was now.

The training session was short today, but only because Dahlinar was expecting a special guest. A new name he hadn't yet heard. A Master from the New Jedi Order. Under Master Morteg, the Green Jedi Order had allied itself with the NJO, providing its services, training, and resources to the members. Few, if any, had the respect for the few Masters left after the Great Galactic War though and fewer and fewer Jedi walked the halls of the Saber or in the light of any Master leading to ruin and persecution. But as he watched the Jedi Master's shuttle approach the Saber's landing pad he began to wonder how complicit the Green Jedi Enclave was in the failings of the New Jedi Order.

After receiving the message from Master Greystar, Valery was rather excited about the trip there. He seemed eager to meet her, and she was looking forward to learning more about his views on the matter she wished to discuss. The only thing that concerned her was his mention of it being a while since the NJO last visited. In difficult times, maintaining relationships was something she valued greatly, and she sincerely hoped it had not been strained.
But she was going to find out soon enough.
The trip to Corellia had not been a long one after she received his reply. She had boarded her X-wing and jumped towards the system to arrive at what she hoped to be a convenient time — past morning meditation, lectures, and training sessions. The ship touched down on the designated location, and with a slight hop, she appeared from out of her fighter.
Since this visit involved no danger, she had left her lightsabers behind in the cockpit and moved to greet those who were waiting for her outside.
"Thank you for receiving me," Valery said as her head dipped into a respectful bow. After rising back up, she offered a kind smile and clasped her hands together in front of her lap.
"It is a pleasure to finally meet you, Master Greystar."

Dalinar offered a bow in reply to the Jedi Master. He noted the X-Wing and her lack of lightsabers. It always surprised him as a student of Jedi history, that the X-Wing endured so long after the great Luke Skywalker. He wondered if the young man knew that his influence would carry more than 800 years past his first flight.

"The pleasure is mine, Master Noble." He turned and gestured towards the door as several PIT droids and G5 astromechs waddled and rolled out to begin refueling and maintenance.

"Welcome to The Saber." Unlike Valery, Dhalinar wore his lightsabers plainly on his belt. Besides that, he also wore a full-sized heavy blaster pistol on his thigh. There was no traditional Jedi robe for him, one thing he had in common with this newer generation of Jedi. Clad in white leather and sturdy spacer boots he looked more akin to a spacer with a high opinion of himself than a Jedi.

He entered the enclave, expecting her to follow. The halls were appropriately ornate for a Jedi building in the middle of a city. Nowhere near as grand as the temple on Coruscant was before the Maw broke it, but sufficiently gaudy with gold and electrum burnished to perfection, faceless Jedi Temple Guard statues guarding the hallways, and paintings of serene landscapes along the wall.

"I take it your journey here was without trouble?" He asked as he led her through the halls. "CorSec didn't make a fuss did they?"

"The pleasure is mine, Master Noble."
Valery smiled and began to follow the man as he gestured for the entrance. With a few side-steps, she avoided walking into the little droids that swarmed out, and as he introduced the location as the Saber, she began to look around. The Corellian Green Jedi were not a group she had interacted much with, but the architecture and decorations within the building all had something familiar to them.
"Thank you for the warm welcome. It has been a long time since I've visited Corellia." She said, her gaze still wandering around as she studied the statues and art, almost as if she was looking for a glance into a more familiar past.
Too long, she muttered under her breath.
"The journey here was without trouble though — nobody made a fuss." Her orange eyes looked back at the Master but with a curiosity to them, that revealed she had something on her mind. "I did have a question though if you don't mind. In your message, you mentioned that it has been some time since the NJO last visited."
"I was wondering if there was any particular reason for it?"
She then pursed her lips in thought and quickly added something.
"It may seem like a rather uninformed question, but... I am in some ways, still. My time in stasis has left me with much to catch up with regarding history."
n0m34qi.png

Stasis? Ah, well, he'd heard the rumors but he didn't think they'd been true. Dhalinar rubbed his chin in thought. A Jedi lost to time, forced to acclimate to a new era thousands of years ahead of where she was before.

"I don't think there was any particular reasoning behind it. The Sith Imperial Civil War swallowed up most of the New Jedi Order. We only stayed behind to defend the Alliance should the Sith have attacked. I fear our actions, or inaction depending on who you speak to, drove a wedge between us though." He nodded as if just coming to the conclusion himself.

"It is sometimes forgotten that a Jedi's duty to the common people is just as important to keep balance as crusading against the Sith." He shrugged. "Watchman Allyson Locke Allyson Locke has sent us a few messages keeping us abreast of dealings with the New Jedi Order, but since Master Morteg's death at Coruscant..." He let the statement trail off before turning to face a door. It hissed open to their right, a large room with several chairs that were meant for the masters of the Saber. They were all empty, the others out on their own missions or somewhere busy in the Saber. The wall height transparisteel at the rear of the room gave a stunning view of Coronet City. Taking a seat on one of the cushions with his legs crossed Dhalinar gestured for the other Master to sit as well.

"Is this why you've come to visit us today?" He didn't seem offended by the New Jedi Order's absence. In fact, he seemed to understand and accept that what happened happened and there was no changing it.

"Not quite."
Valery slowly lowered herself into a seat after she had listened to his answer, and allowed her gaze to settle on the Master. Her worry had been that the relationship was far more strained, but luckily that didn't seem to be the case. Although room for improvement was certainly there.
"I actually came to visit to talk about something else you briefly mentioned — the duty of a Jedi." She said as her hands rested in her lap and for just a moment, her gaze wandered to the beautiful view outside, as she tried to formulate her next words inside her mind.
"I don't believe any Jedi will disagree that our participation in defending the Galaxy against the Maw is important, although I personally feel it has blinded many to other threats out there. But as I'm sure you understand perfectly well, being a Jedi involves much more than that."
She paused again and pursed her lips forward in thought.
"Since the moment I stepped out of that stasis chamber, I've found myself surrounded by Jedi who are struggling. In part because of the war, but also because they never had the guidance they should have gotten to begin with. This is why I'm here — I'm trying to convince experienced and well-trained Jedi to actively work together to change that."
"Whether that's through classes, training Padawans, or being a visible example. I've changed my own path to play a role in this, and I hope others are willing to help me carry that responsibility."
Her orange eyes remained fixated on the older Jedi, and her expression alone made it clear that she hoped to be able to count on his assistance as well. Or at the very least, gain another useful perspective on the matter.

"I don't believe any Jedi will disagree that our participation in defending the Galaxy against the Maw is important, although I personally feel it has blinded many to other threats out there. But as I'm sure you understand perfectly well, being a Jedi involves much more than that."
That was the truth. Over the last several months on Corellia alone, there was a large uptick in violent gang activity, stretching CorSec like salt-water candy. But Jedi couldn't be police and they couldn't be soldiers, not if they were to guide and mediate and protect balance. Dhalinar rubbed his beard in thought, his gloved hands causing a scratch sound as his hand ran through the course white hair.
"We are just as guilty here," he said, "Of ignoring the needs of not just the New Jedi Order but Jedi everywhere. Our steadfast holding to tradition has failed our order." A small serving droid rolled in carrying trays of light crackers and Atrisian tea. He sat in silence as the droid worked and took the cup when proffered. After a sip he set the cup down and sighed again.
"We are stretched thin here at the Saber. Our old temple is nothing but a dusty building stalked by droids. We are doing nothing but slapping a bandage on our problems. I would be happy to do something to change that." His blue eyes met her orange ones and twinkled with anticipation.
"What would you have us do Master Valery?"

Valery offered a smile at his words. She didn't particularly feel that anybody was to blame — adjusting to war and rapidly changing situations wasn't ever an easy thing. And with the Jedi as thinly spread out as they are, finding enough of them to heal wounds left behind was often challenging, if not impossible.
"While tradition sometimes fails us, I also believe it can offer a solution in this case," Valery said as she leaned over to accept a cup of tea. She carefully raised it to her lips to take a sip and turned her orange gaze back to the man.
"If those with experience help build a better foundation, the Jedi may soon no longer need droids to maintain their temples. So my request is that more Jedi actively train Padawans. I've found that a lot of them roam around without a Master who can offer guidance and direction. It results in many of them acting on their own limited experience and individual moral codes, whilst still representing the Jedi. It has created a lot of problems." Valery then paused again to take a sip from her tea and set the cup down on her lap.
"Of course, this request is not going to change things fast, but I believe the Jedi will benefit from it in the long run. Would you and other experienced Jedi here on Corellia be willing to help with this?"
