SETTING INFORMATION- Military Base Name: Camp Creachaire
- Classification: Training Camp
- Location: Keskin
- Affiliation: First Order
- Population: Moderate.
- Demographics: The camp is made up primarily of First Order Army personnel, the majority of which are human.
- Accessibility: The camp is situated in the heart of Keskin's jungle and most easily accessed by air at the central landing pads. Access on the ground is extremely difficult and only really possible by foot. The camp's location isn't top secret but nor is it public access. Anyone evading the patrols is likely to be gunned down at the perimeter for using the wrong passcode.
- Description:
Camp Creachaire is the main location for training First Order personnel in wilderness warfare and survival, in the jungle. It's a far cry from the glitz and glamour of the Guards regiments or the Stormtrooper Corps. Unlike the solid structures and parade grounds there, it looks like a mess. The camp is a series of concentric wire perimeters with bunkers, trenches, and guard towers scattered throughout. Old ruins from before the Galactic Civil War are also in the area with the more usable taken over by the First Order too.
Conditions are spartan enough with the cadre based there seeing little need for comfort beyond the essentials. Keskin isn't a hardship posting but it isn't easy either. Creachaire serves two purposes. Its first is to provide a semi-controlled environment for First Order military personnel to train and grow accustomed to fighting in the jungle. Instructors hammer in the maxim that the jungle is neutral. Students vary from light infantry doing advanced training to Navy pilots preparing for escape and evasion after crash landing. The camp's second purpose is to prevent any lingering rebel elements from establishing a safe zone in the heart of the jungle. The added bonus is that the students have the chance to blunder into actual enemies while training.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Main Landing Pad: This is Creachaire’s lifeline to the outside world. Located in the second defense perimeter, it’s capable of taking medium tonnage landers as well as smaller dropships. There’s a spill barrier for loose fuel as well as buried fuel and crash bunkers. Smaller landing pads are scattered throughout the base for use in case of emergency.
Central Ruin: The base is built around old ruins from the time of the Galactic Civil War. Some of these extend underground and the largest has been turned into the headquarters for the base while First Order engineers have secured the tunnels and added more modern defences. Comms towers and satellites sprout from the roof of it, boosting the base signals to orbit and beyond.
Firing Range: The larger live-fire courses are located outside the perimeter but there is also a range within the camp available for use by students and the garrison. Smaller underground ranges lead off it designed for sidearms and personal defense weapons.
Barracks blocks: Most of the living quarters for the camp are half dug into the earth with sandbagged walls built up around them. Some of the transient camp’s population are housed in tents while others have put more modern prefabricated structures that are a blessing when inclement weather hits.
Perimeter: Creachaire’s perimeter is delineated by rows of razorwire and clearly marked minefields. Concealed bunkers and E-Web pits cover the gaps. Here and there a lonely observation tower or sangar rises above the dirt. Larger ferrocrete bunkers are used to anchor the defensive line.
Ion battery: Four ion cannons serve as the main orbital defensive armament at the camp, powered by geothermal generators. They are located separately around the camp with their own defensive positions that can serve as an emergency HQ if needed.
SECURITY
Medium
Creachaire’s main defense is its isolated location. Anyone intending to attack the camp has to trudge through kilometres of hostile jungle. Its capture isn’t essential to control of Keskin but anyone occupying the planet will eventually need to eliminate the redoubt.
The terrain is another factor. Creachaire’s location ensures that an armoured assault is almost impossible. Any force coming in by land will have to be infantry as the bush and undergrowth are nearly impervious to vehicles. The best bet is orbital bombardment followed by a ground attack.
The perimeter is secured with minefields while fields of fire cover the gaps between them. Trenches and dugouts criss cross the base while larger ferrocrete bunkers are used to anchor the defensive lines and serve as strongpoints. It’s not quite a fortress world but the defenses make it guaranteed to give an attacker a bloody nose.
The garrison is a mix of locally raised regulars as well as the transient units that are there to learn from instructors in the Keskin jungle. The arsenal is kept well stocked and the camp is deliberately kept overly supplied in case of use as an emergency stronghold.
Lastly, four ion cannons serve as the base’s largest armament. Controlled separately from the capital’s defenses, they are kept monitored 24/7.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Creachaire’s oldest known ruins date back to the Galactic Civil War when it was the site of a battle between Rebels and the Empire. The latter had established a base there which the First Order have partially excavated and resumed control of.
The First Order occupied it during their first occupation of the planet while the camp fell under Loyalist control in the civil war that resulted after the planet was abandoned by the faction. The intervention on Keskin saw the camp resume prominence again as the First Order reoccupied it and began to use it as a base of operations to clear out the rebel presence in the surrounding jungle.
As hostilities subside, Creachaire has become less of a combat base and more of one for training. Rather than abandon the infrastructure, the administration have instead expanded it, seeking to use it to train their troops in a hostile environment, one that Keskin is all too happy to offer.
