INVENTORY

That's Classified.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

A Naval Captain striving to honor the legacy of his recently fallen Admiral mentor would embody a combination of traditional naval virtues and modern leadership qualities:

Character Traits
  • Integrity and Honor: Gym works hard to uphold the highest standards of personal and professional conduct, demonstrating unwavering honesty and moral courage in all situations.
  • Accountability: One thing he learned from Liram was to full responsibility for his actions and decisions, as well as those of his subordinates, holding himself to the highest standards of performance.
  • Humility: Despite his rank, the Captain remains approachable and open to feedback, recognizing the value of every team member's contribution.

Leadership Style
  • Empowering and Supportive: Captain Halpern fosters an environment of trust and confidence, empowering his subordinates to reach their full potential.
  • Balanced Perspective: He works hard to maintain a professional distance while still connecting with his crew, understanding their needs and challenges. He liked being a close confidante to Admiral Angellus, but knows that it was costly to both of them.
  • Visionary: The Captain possesses a forward-thinking mindset, embracing innovation and adaptability in the face of changing naval warfare.

Personal Philosophy
  • Galactic Perspective: Halpern transcended local viewpoints, embracing a broader, national outlook on his duties and responsibilities.
  • Continuous Learning: He is committed to ongoing personal and professional development, always seeking to improve his skills and knowledge
  • Service-Oriented: Halpern is deeply dedicated to serving his home, his crew, and the naval tradition, embodying the core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty

By embodying these qualities, Gym not only honors his mentor's legacy but also inspire and lead the next generation of naval officers, continuing the cycle of excellence in naval leadership.

STRENGTHS
  • RIGHTEOUS - To him, a man who did not deserve to die is buried in a cemetery right now and he is alive. Gym is going to do everything he can to make sure the life he lives is worth it, but he is also going to do it the right way. This is not "his" war, it is war.
  • LEARNED FROM THE BEST - Halpern's tactical mind is a product of his learning experience under the Angellus bloodline, and he wouldn't have it any other way. His "out of the box" thinking is something that proves every time to be a problem for those in enemy ships.

WEAKNESSES
  • ANGELLUS FAMILY - There is nothing wrong with his desire to honor his friend and mentor, but at what cost? Will his reliance on "What Liram would do" be detrimental? What his desire to be near Alyksandra and Michael distract him? There is a reason why Gym Halpern went back to the Galactic Alliance, and Rojuhr Pouihl went to the Royal Naboo Republic.
  • ALMOST TOO ALTRUISTIC - One problem he has is this overwhelming desire to continue the legacy of his mentor, Admiral Angellus. The problem is the galaxy is still changing. He needs to be able to adapt.

HISTORY

Naval Captain Gym Halpern's career took a dramatic turn following the tragic execution of his mentor, Admiral Liram Angellus. The loss of his respected leader deeply affected Halpern, leading him to leave active military service.

After his departure from the Galactic Alliance Navy, Halpern spent time in the private sector, taking on various contract work assignments. This period allowed him to process his grief and reassess his future while utilizing his military skills in a civilian capacity.

A pivotal moment came when Halpern reconnected with his old friend and former fleetmate, Rojuhr Pouihl. The two veterans shared a deep respect for Admiral Angellus and agreed that his legacy should be preserved and honored. However, their paths diverged on how best to achieve this goal.

Halpern, after much reflection, chose to return to the Galactic Alliance. He believed that working within the system would be the most effective way to implement positive changes and uphold the principles Admiral Angellus had instilled in him.

Pouihl, on the other hand, harbored resentment towards the Galactic Alliance, blaming their inaction for Admiral Angellus's death. Seeking a fresh start, Pouihl decided to join the Royal Naboo Republic, a choice influenced by the fact that Admiral Angellus had been born on Naboo.

This divergence in paths highlights the complex emotions and loyalties that can arise in the aftermath of losing a respected leader. While both men sought to honor their mentor's memory, their different approaches reflect the personal nature of grief and the varied ways individuals choose to carry on a legacy.

That light at the end of the tunnel leads to Hell
Admittedly it was a bit of a surprise when Gym returned to the Active Duty with the Galactic Alliance Defense Force that he went from being the CO of a Supercarrier and the XO of a fleet to being in command of a single ship, but Halpern took it in stride. "A Command is a Command", humility he learned from his former CO and mentor, he promised himself he would do Liram and his new crew proud.
