- Personality: An air of patriotism and professionalism surrounds the captain while on duty, he is always quick to remind his men the reason they serve Sanjin and he always looks to complete his mission. While off-duty the man is far more lax although he is quick to uphold his beliefs should they be questioned,
- Weapon of Choice:
- KXR SFR-58 'Bozdugan' Blaster Rifle - Primary Service Rifle
- DD12 Blaster Pistol - Primary Service Pistol
- KC-47 Hybrid Strike Rifle - Favoured off-duty Rifle
- Combat Function: Captain Kovacs serves primarily as the leader of Sabre Platoon, a 18 man team of elite Sanjini Marines from Special Warfare Group 203. Kovacs and these soldiers primarily work in securing Sanjin's goals on and off world during times of peace and war, legal or illegal. Kovacs works on the frontline with his man, leading them on every mission from infiltrating the underworld to spearheading an assault.
- Military Officer - As a military officer Kovacs is deeply knowledgable in military tactics and during his years of service, very experienced. His time as a marine officer has also allowed him to hone in his skills as a platoon commander and his marksmanship, making him a deadly officer to deal with.
- Spec Ops - Training as a special operations officer under the watchful eyes of former Imperial instructors has only added onto his skill set. Here he learnt espionage, infiltration, survival and interrogation tactics, all of which he has or is expected to employ as a Sabre platoon's commanding officer.
- Superiority Complex - As a professional soldier Kovacs often looks down upon those he doesn't deem to be a threat, often prioritising service personnel or those that prove themselves to be worthy of his attention. This could lead him to underestimate an enemy he either does not fully understand or expects little from his experience.
- Team Player - As a platoon commander Kovacs truly shines while leading his men and while he still is a capable soldier on his own he is far easier to defeat. He was taught strength in numbers as well as how to best utilise his teams help making him much more of a specialist rather than a generalist.
Tahl Kovacs was born on Balosar, the polluted industrial world was his entire life for 9 years as his family worked in the dangerous conditions of its many factories. Quality of life was poor and Kovacs often looks back on his homeworld with disdain. Thankfully, the impoverished boy was not destined to work in the factories of Balosar but instead was given a choice.
The factory his father worked in went up in a catastrophic industrial fire, demolishing the building to the ground. Kovacs soon found himself and his family being relocated by his fathers company to a nearby planet named Sanjin, one he wasn't familiar with but the sight he saw when entering its atmosphere was one he would not forget. The life zone and floating colonies looked like heavan, wear the sky was blue and the sun shined, above the clouds and gas. His family would be moved into worker lodgings on Sanjin's second largest mining colony and his life saw a major improvement. He attended school, the ration packs tasted much nicer and everything was clean, and with the education he was given a choice.
At the age of 18 he decided not to follow his father's footsteps, instead enrolling in Sanjin's defence force as a Marine. During his time he saw great things, he got to travel through the core, protect his new home and learn skills he felt were important. But he also saw bad things, like the corruption of his homeworld, the selling of its natural resources and its decline from the galactic stage, and these things he took personally, angered by those so eager to profit from Sanjin.
By 860 ABY Kovacs was a warrant officer and rumours of the rising Optimatium party soon reached his ear and from there he was indoctrinated into their ideology. During their silent coup it was rumoured Kovacs personally saw to the 'accidental deaths' of three top officials, acts which after the Optimatium's came to power were greatly thankful for. Him and his family were rewarded and he was given the opportunity to advance his career through becoming an officer and transferring over to the newly commissioned Special Warfare Group 203. After gaining his officer commission as a Captain he begun his retraining and after a gruelling 16 weeks he graduated from the course put together by Sanjin's new military training advisors and started his role as a platoon commander for Sabre platoon.
