Higher classes are often associated with director of large corporations which oversee the large commerce exchange between Castagne and neighboring systems and remote systems that relate to fair trade. Most of these families had established their corporations centuries ago, while others only a generation past. As commerce and demand flow technology changes with the ever changing political standing of off world systems, opportunities for new corporations to emerge, and present ones to change, this high class demographic also changes. Most of the Council members are in this category.
Middle class on Castagne is considered the professional class and includes most of every family in it's military service. This class also includes scientific, medical, law enforcement and local political oriented families (governors, magistrates etc... and upcoming Council candidates)
There is no lower class, per say, other than the small percentage of individuals or families that remain skirting the common laws, such as members of the Underworld, and black market traffickers of unregulated vices, such as exotic drugs, sex trafficking and VR tech that skirts the boundaries of moral standards. As stated, this Underworld exists on Castagne as it exists on all systems. This is the only category that can be considered lower class in Castan society.
Castagne could as well have a diversified culture, if it's alien race population were more than it is. Currently and for many centuries it has varied only slightly, but on average and of last census it is put at 17%. This 17% is a total of the varied alien races as compared to the 83 % of the humans. The largest minority alien race is actually a mere 4% and the second is 2.7% , which then falls dramatically to 1% before the remainder percentages are lower than that. But in total, as per census, they make up 17% of the non-human population on Castagne. As thus, their individual culture does not greatly influence the majority.
The one requirement of immigrating to Castagne is to embrace Castan Culture and assimilate to its society. This has in a way prevented mass immigration to this world due to those doctrines. But Castagne does not forbid one's individual culture to be oppressed, just that it is not allowed to supersede Castan Culture.
Castagne at one point in it's history had many different cultures as per their individual nationalities and demographics. But through the thousands of years, those cultures melded together to one very diversified nation,...or system. The arts and music is as varied as individuals tastes are varied. No one particular group really exists or dominates per say, as most often individual tastes quite often differ within family structures. This is the direct result of the Castan Constitution that secures the freedom of expression through the arts (art, music and literature) and rights of individuals to seek happiness.
The media and it's distribution of entertainment and news is overseen by CMA (Castan Media Agency) which regulates and prevents any corp from monopolizing the media content. Diversity in media content is encouraged.
Past times for all classes is encouraged with standard work week being 32 hours, which can be broken down to the individual's own scheduling (2-4-6-8-12-16 hour days), but not to exceed 4 consecutive days in a given week. This ensures low unemployment and job coverage in the civilian sectors. Hours/days exceeding that are compensated as comp time...accumulating off times/vacations, over the standard 4 week vacations.
Vacations on-world were once highly encouraged (up to 3 centuries ago) as Castagne once had a ISDI (Inner System Development Initiative) program, to develop and expand it's natural green environments to accommodate vacationers. This program directly resulted in the lush vacation spots that litter Castagne, by way of mountain chalets for cold whether sporting, tropical islands with first class amenities for all of its citizens, water ship cruises and many varieties of vacation spots. The ISDI program currently is not as directive as it once was, for it is now a maintenance initiative program, keeping all the green vacation spots under pristine conditions. There was never a ban on off world vacations, just that on world was highly encouraged so as to help grow and expand Castagne's natural green spaces.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
- Government: Federal Republic established since it's Independence 850 years ago from the Galactic Empire. Former Republic System that never rejoined the Republic after the fall of Palpatine.
- Affiliation: CIS (Confederacy of Independent Systems)
- Wealth: High. This is based on Castagne not having conflicts between it's countries/states. No internal war campaigns = National Gross product spent on growth and military. Military is set up to defend the system from other aggressors outside of the system.
- Stability: High internal stability. There is a national pride in the system, with very low crime rate overall. What little crime exists, seems well organized (Underworld presence as in all systems) and kept low key, as it refuses to completely be eradicated through the centuries, despite efforts by both local and Castan directed Bureaus. Most of the Underworld is drug based with other vices that skirt the regulated vices. There is regulated alcohol, recreational drugs, and alternate reality tech . The people are free to travel throughout the system and off world. Castagne is a system of laws that protect citizens rights, with practicality, that benefits the majority and it extends to all classes.
- Freedom & Oppression: General feeling of freedom, as citizens can travel about anywhere freely except military and sensitive national security areas. Off world beings can also move about like citizens and are subject to same laws. Alien races are equally treated and must also abide and are protected by system laws. Immigration is accepted and regulated based on system needs and opportunities and everyone must assimilate into Castan society. There is religious freedom, as long as it does not defy Castan Laws.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
- Military: Good to superior military. It comprises of Castan Navy (water and space), Marines (fighting forces in Navy) and Pilots. Note: this system's military will be part of the balanced CIS military.
- Technology: Standard to high tech that exists in any advanced and established civilization in the galaxy, including, but not restricted to CIS general advance on common technologies.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
There are no surviving records as how humans came to inhabit this system, as it is believed to be nearly as old as Coruscant...but settled thousands of years later.
Most common beliefs of how humans came to be (settled) are religious based and has very little scientific documentation to back those beliefs. The majority believe in a singular Creator, and that Castagne was a gift to a man and woman who awakened from a void to make Castagne their home.
Scientist speculate that Castagne was most likely settled shortly after Coruscant was during the early days of long range colonization using cryogenic hibernation in crossings of the great expanses between star systems.
The one major event in it's modern history, was during the last days of the Old Republic. Castagne system was among the many that had supported Chancellor Palpatine in his bid for Emperor and the forming of The Galactic Empire. Castagne had been one of the TGE's main supporter and it's most loyal system. A good number of officers and intelligence personnel were from Castagne. This was a time when the system government used propaganda to advance Imperialistic beliefs and to create a loyal following to Palpatine's Regime. Castagne at the time had a dark history, for it became one of the main hub of the Imperial Intelligence Network. This allowed it to maintain it's own defensive fleet under Castan authority which was overseen under a Castan Moff.
Castagne supported the Empire as it embraced it's key belief of Law and Order. But shortly after two decades following it's induction to the Empire, it fell apart when the realization of lies and of the evil Emperor came to light in the destruction of Alderaan. This quickly changed the views of the people and in the following years that lead to the fall of Palpatine, Castagne was able to break free of the Empire, when it were dealt a striking blow at the death of Palpatine.
Hundreds of former Imperial worlds receded from the Galactic Empire and Castagne was one of them. But unlike so many other systems that achieved independence, to rejoin the New republic, Castagne did not. They opted to remain independent.
The military hardware and SD's of the fallen Imperial Navy that were stationed planet side were commandeered by Castagne. It were used to establish security around the system during those first years, keeping it from the main fighting, enabling Castagne to remain independent during those trying years.
As the war raged on in the galaxy between the Imperial Remnant and the introduction of the First Order, Castagne did it's best to keep itself low key to an almost obscurity for the Empire had thought the system was lost to the Republic, being distant from the Imperial retreat space.
Eventually as the system stabilized from within, it drew up a Constitution and establishing it's own Federal Republic government that has remained to this day.
