Model: Castameer tactical display
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: No
Production: Mass-Produced.
Material: Standard electronics components
Strengths:
- Allows to display a huge amount of targets at once, of all sizes
- Provides an array of tactically-relevant information for ships within twice the effective range of long-range turbolasers
- Can be installed on all ships that can carry fighters (and even in frigate-sized ships and up that have a combat information center)
- Requires high-performance sensor suites for the Castameer to work properly due to the sheer amount of information being processed
- Cannot be installed on ships smaller than 100 meters
- Provides no bonuses to targeting
- Vulnerable to ion weapon fire in a boarding action
Description: Prior to the battle over Castameer, which was one of the largest in galactic history, most tactical displays on the market were able to process a rather limited number of targets in that context. It was quickly found that, for large-scale fleeting, that was insufficient to take into account all the tactical variables associated with each ship, ranging from the attack craft to the battlecruisers, up to roughly twice the effective range of a long-range turbolaser. Among the information that is accessible to a display user on a tridimensional holographic map with the mount ship at its center, is the heading, the class of ship being targeted, the allegiance of the ship (along with its commanding officer if available), the hull condition, the shield condition, the distance of the target to the ship as well as subsystem condition, especially sensor arrays, engines, weapon hardpoints and reactors. However, for a tactical display to be able to display so much information about a ship at their users' request, a high-performance sensor suite is required to be able to feed all the data to the display.
For these reasons, it makes for a nice addition to any combat information center, especially for ships capable of carrying assault craft. It was first field-tested over Korriban onboard the Mateus and later used by the same ship over Castameer.
