STRENGTHS
  • Perfect allrounder: With an excellent defense, adequate offensive capacity, and a substantial cargo capacity and starfighter contingent, the Castor I/E boasts a versatility that is virtually unseen among most cruiser carriers within its market class, allowing for it to have multiple roles as a personal capital ship, as the backbone of small fleets or as one of the most reliable backups in larger fleets.
  • Highly Automated and Symbiotic Linked: The Empire variant of this cruiser carrier is still highly automated, allowing for less crew, but Karl opted for more bridge crew to reduce automation in this key area. However, the bridge crew is still reduced from a normal non-automated cruiser of this size, thanks to the addition of the FAE/S-07 Symbiotic Ghost Link and the ability to truly multitask through its use. Due to the "Brain Strain" that this system creates, there are three bridge crews, typically a morning, afternoon, and night crew. This ultimately counts up to a normal bridge crew, but a reduced number on the bridge at one time allowing for swapping to take place if one bridge crew member is injured.
  • Quality to match its Quantity: The use of various new and old, well-known materials chosen for their outstanding reputation within their field or the intent to be loaded out with the best materials possible coupled with the N&Z's known build quality promises a ship that can take a heavy beating and still would manage to trudge on.
  • Technological Marvel: The empire variant of the Castor is filled to the brim with the latest and greatest technology that a shipwright could dream of, making it the cutting-edge in starship construction.
  • Limited Anti-Interdiction: The Empire variant comes equipped with a Null-Series, allowing it to escape cruiser-level interdiction and below. Anything larger than a cruiser will require multiple of these ships.
WEAKNESSES
  • Highly Automated and Symbiotic Linked: If the internal AI was to be compromised, the low personnel count would make it hard to counteract this imbalance causing the functionality of the ship to decrease significantly. Additionally, while there are three different bridge crews, if one station were to have all of its members injured, the station would be unfulfilled making the ships overall function decrease.
  • Exposed Engine Exhausts: Though they have been outfitted with the typically standard heatshields, with the ship's shielding down, these can be a veritable weak point to cripple the ship.
  • EMP/Ion: While this ship has metallic alloys and compounds that have high EMP/Ion resistance, it is only that, a resistance. There are many systems on this ship that are technological boons to the crew and AI but with enough EMP/Ion damage, it could begin to take them out and hinder the overall function of the vessel.
DESCRIPTION
The Castor I/E - Class Cruiser Carrier of simply the Empire variant of the aforementioned cruiser carrier, was purpose built to be folded into the Empire of the Lost's naval forces. The main project lead on this variant was Karl Von Strauss with several of the best and brightest from both the N&Z Umbrella Corporation and the Imperial Naval Corp of Engineering (NCE). All of the mainstays of the Castor I are still available on the Empire variant, with only a few changes, upgrades, and additions to make it more even more viable for large-scale naval conflict.

For changes, the NCE, decided to swap out several NZ laser cannon turrets for turrets containing the FAE/SW-07 Heavy Hybrid Beam Cannon. While these beam cannons have a versitility not found on the NZ laser cannons they replaced, they do have reduced range. They cannot reach out as far as the NZ laser cannons, therefore are a closer veritable second-screen of defense and offense. The only other major change was one that was fought over tooth and nail between the design teams: Automation. Both teams had their own thought processes behind automating an entire ship, the N&Z team having automated most every ship in the N&Z catalog, and the NCE having little automation. Karl Von Struass satiated these two design teams from butting head by creating a design that combines the ideas of both high and low automation. The ship itself is largely run on automation and its internal AI system from N&Z, while the bridge is less automated, but consists of three different bridge crews augmented with the FAE Symbiotic Ghost Link. The Ghost Link allows for a reduced bridge crew as each crew member takes on several tasks rather than just one, allowing for true multitasking. But why three? Because the Ghost Link does have a downside, it causes "Brain Strain" and each team only operates 1/3 of the day giving them a break and allowing them to rest and recouperate.

For upgrades, there were only a few a few swaps. Firstly, the tetra-polycarbonite lamellar compound was swapped out with the quinta variation allowing for better resistenace to energy, EMP, and Ion based weaponry, giving all of the cutting-edge technology inside the ship a much needed boost against damage. Secondly, is the upgrade from the traditional SLAM unit to the Angelus Arms SLAM MK. II. This gives it a longer range, at the cost of manuverability during the jump.

For additions the list is a little longer. There were a few FAE systems that were added like the Univeral Communications Matrix and the Unified Engagement Network, which go hand-in-hand with each other. The UCM allows for better communications between ships of this class and a unique interference and interception network. The UEN allows for the ships of this class to effective share targeting data using the UCM, which means more effective teamwork from its carrier based starfighters. Then there was the addition of the Imyndaða Series Solid State Hologram, which because of its inclusion on the last few projects of Karl's he decided to include it giving the bridge crew a better holointerface to work with. Then, while this isn't a true addition, the option of swapping out squadrons for the NZ HASS-1A drop pods gived this ship the ability to conduct boarding parties although unsafe, and dropping troops or supplies into the field. And lastly, was the addition of the Null-Series Gravity Well Nuetralizer, allowing for these cruisers to be able to escape from some, but not all, interdiction fields.

All in all, the Empire variant stays true to the original Castor I, while only adding Karl's design touches to it.
