- [Strength] The Catullus is capable of turning enemy starfighter squadrons into mincemeat without much effort.
- [Weakness] Short range weapons and light armor make a Catullus unfit for combat against anything larger than a freighter.
The Catullus-Class Star Frigate is capable of entering and exiting atmospheres. Air superiority over a given stretch of the planet never looked so good.
The Catullus employs a few cap drains and de-ionizers into its construction. This gives it nominal protection from ionic weapons and EMP attacks, but sustained assaults will inevitably overwhelm it. Among the other stations in the bridge is a small Central Control Computer, allowing the vessel’s automated deckhands to benefit from greater cohesion.
The weapon emplacements of the Catullus are fully automated, controlled by a network of Epicurus-Class Droid Brains outfitted with the Sagittarius-Class Targeting System. This gives it superior tracking and accuracy, especially against the fast-moving fighter craft it is designed to defend against. Squadrons making runs within range of a Catullus frequently take heavy losses.
While not a dedicated EWAR vessel, the Catullus also features such devices. The 220-SIG Tactical Sensor Jamming Device, for instance, which plays havoc with enemy sensors and scrambles guidance systems on incoming missiles. The range is small, however, and does not take full effect until enemy craft are within striking range.
DESCRIPTION
The Catullus-Class Star Frigate is the designated escort craft of the Helix Syndicate’s private armada. It’s a quick, lightly armored vessel designed to protect the blind spots of larger vessels. Weaponry for a Catullus is comparatively short range and designed to make quick work of enemy starfighters… And not much else. It’s never terribly wise to deploy a Catullus against other capital ships without proper support. Its speed, however, makes it a relatively effective scout ship.
Catulluses are made specifically to be crewed by droids. With the exception of the bridge controls, manning most stations elsewhere on the ship requires direct interfacing with a computer probe port. Some areas of the ship, particularly maintenance accessways, are not even connected to the life support system. Other areas seem to disregard most guidelines for the safety of organic personnel, largely because organic personnel should never reasonably have to be in those areas. Internal defenses are token, just auto-turrets and blast doors in several sections close to the bridge.
Though not a dedicated transport, the Catullus can comfortably house a ground complement of two light walkers and one landing craft. This includes space for 62 organic soldiers or 120 battle droids. A Catullus is usually only sent out with its complement if it is deploying them for a more surgical combat operation. Otherwise, it just isn’t necessary. These accommodations can also be tailored for civilian passengers or just simple bulk cargo as well, but there are ultimately ships out there far more suited to the task than an Ovid.
