Cause I was bored

Operation Bug Zapper

On the arid desert planet of Kamar[/color] two small drop ships boomed out of hyper space and blew through the atmosphere, they were here for one reason and one reason only. Revenge, well kind of revenge. Really they were just bored and maybe if they caused enough death and destruction the person they wanted to show up would. But either way it was something to pass the time until revenge o'clock struck.

The shuttles flew over the desert landscape outside of a city state that the sentient insects inhabited and coming into view was something very very fun. A nuclear power plant billowed smoke and out here in the space boonies it wasn't really all that defended, a few security teams but nothing major. Who would want to come all the way out here just to kill a few bugs? You'd have to be an absolute looney to do that.

"Hey! You guys want to go screw with those bug people for no particular reason?" James M Parker said with a chuckle to which he was responded back to by multiple voices inside the dropship.

"Sure!" they all said in unison with an eerily similar voice.

The drop ships touched down on the landing pads and a few security guards came out to see what was happening. That would be the last mistake they would make. The doors to the shuttle opened up and soon a man with a bandana masked face holding a machine gun opened up on the security guards sending them pieces of bloody ichor and severed limbs.

"SENSELESS VIOLENCE I LOVE YOU!!" the man lifted both his organic hands in the air and soon behind him a few dozen men all armed to the teeth began to open fire on the nuclear power plant.

Marching up to a security camera Parker lowered down and looked into the camera and started speaking into it. A group of nonsensical words that really didn't mean anything

But if anyone could generally read lip it would be a slew of curse words and a single name that could be read as [member="Jorus Merrill"]

The Second Akala Crisis had shaken every government to its core, and the Levantine Sanctum as much as any other. Kamar had withdrawn from the Sanctum alliance in an attempt to solve its own problems. Clearly, that hadn't gone so well. Compounding the issue, the main worlds of the Corporate Sector were all part of the Sanctum, and Kamar was at the extreme rimward end of the Corporate Sector.

So when a certain distress call came from Kamar, all sorts of people paid attention. Some of them could even read lips.

A Niathal-class shuttle slashed down through the atmosphere. Alec, not being a moron, had one radiation deflection badge on her jacket and one concealed under her shirt. Not the stealthiest things in the verse, but they'd do the job. And if these raiders were mucking about with nuclear plants, modern antirad tech was really the least she could do.

The shuttle, on approach to the plant and the grounded dropships, shuddered as its military-grade mag-pulse launcher fired. The goal was to disable the dropships. Its cannons opened up on whoever was in the open, suppressing fire to pave the way for the ground assault. The gunner and pilot worked in concert to maximize effective fire lanes without actually shooting the nuclear reactor. Cannon fire threw up huge clouds of grit, providing cover.

At the pilot's signal, Alec jumped out the hatch, followed by about as many Underground-affiliated Rekali Clan fighters as the goons Parker had brought. Shotguns featured heavily. Repulsor belts softened their landing, they split into squads, and under cover of the windblown grit they advanced. Alec double-checked the comforting weight of her ostrine brass knuckles under her shirt. There was every chance this would get to knife range.

There was every chance of no good outcome.

It really wasn't an issue hitting two stationary drop ships with a magpulse cannon, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. The ships systems fried and the two birds remained on the ground now completely useless, but that didn't discourage the psychopath and his goons whatsoever. With the desert winds picking up Parker decided that if he was going to go out he was going to do it in style, and have fun with it. So Parker looked at the incoming squads of underground fighters and smiled underneath his bandana, the grin of a white toothy wolfish smile.

"All of you stay here and hold them off, I'll be inside." Parker said to his goons that numbered about roughly forty.

Wielding a mix of submachine guns shotguns and Medium machine guns the gang of lunatics opened fire from various positions across a span of twenty meters. Some were behind cover others stood out in the open. Their bodies and faces were covered by ballistic vests and masks, whoever they were they didn't really operate as a team more as a group of individuals all playing call of duty trying to shoot everything in sight. Some were even gunned down by friendly fire.

As for Parker he slipped inside the facility with two of the covered guards behind his back. A few bug scientists crossed their path and they were quickly gunned down by the three men which was then laughed about by Parker.

"Did you see his bloody face?! It was like pbbbbbbt! Out the back of his head!" Parker let out another laugh as he and his men were entering the beginning stages of the facility.

The Rekali clan warriors had military-grade air support. The raiders, some of them, had solid cover. The raiders also had automatic weapons. The clan's men were chucking CryoBan and concussion shells from their Bloodstripes with abandon. Not ideal conditions for either side, and casualties started being a thing in short order. As to who was winning -- well, the whole desperate, vicious mess took place under a pall of dust thick enough to obscure everything and everyone. It tasted like cremation.

Then the clan boys broke out the incendiaries and it smelled that way too.

Alec and a fireteam circled around to the right, angling to flank, but steering clear of the laser and ion fire from the airborne shuttle. Her intention wasn't to crush -- the raiders had plenty of men, more than her -- but to pin down, prevent a flank, and maybe find a way in to stop whatever was going down.

A small security team approached Parker and his two guards, four of the insectoid people of the planet. A few blaster bolts were exchanged but they were quickly gunned down by a slew of automatic fire from the medium machine gun. Loud and bright streaks of tracer rounds poured down the hallways splattering green insect ichor over the walls and floors of the power plant. Parker let out a loud and unrestrained laugh at the pathetic sight of twitching limbs and writhing bodies going through their death throws.

"Tell me you were recording that!? That's going on Spacebook!!!" Parker said as he stepped over the green ichor slipping slightly with a wet squeaking sound beneath his boot.

Whatever Parker's plans were he was getting closer to the reactors control room, it was a pretty fun process along the way though.

Outside though fire and cryoban grenades were starting to mount casualties on the goons. Frozen statues of men lay perfectly still and dead while others ran around with wild sporadic movements as fire engulfed their bodies. Others were simply blown apart by the ships blaster cannons and others lay in stupors on the ground their nervous system fried by ion cannons. But they still held for now, they were taking heavy casualties but they were handling the situation quite well. Well as good as a gang of madmen could, which was to say not very well at all.

Returning fire with reckless abandon the goons were laughing and letting out shrieks of challenge and defiance. They wanted to kill these people before taking everything they owned and end then ending everything and everyone they cared for.

The cordon of Rekalis was taking fire too -- despite the visual cover, the raiders had automatic weapons, so there was that. Between the clan warriors' AOE and air support, the war of attrition would be over in short order.

But short order wouldn't be good enough for the native civilians inside the facility.

Alec's Bloodstripe barked, clearing the way with a trio of concussion rounds. She and the two men at her back sprinted through the torrent of dust, past the enemy flank and into the facility. The door sealed behind her, leaving her to cough on dust while scrutinizing the dead. There was, it seemed, no interest in taking the civilians alive, and that meant the raiders were either here to steal radioactive material or induce a meltdown.

Feth.

She reloaded and headed in.

As the battle outside raged on, inside the facility things were going at a very different pace. When Alec made it inside the facility the first thing that could be noticed was the vile smell of insect ichor that had been spilt. Various bodies lay on the ground some still twitching and others splattered on the walls due to the destructive power of the machine gun. But it wouldn't be hard to find Parker for the woman, all she would have to do was follow the trail of breadcrumbs, and by breadcrumbs it was apparent bodies was the proper term.

Beneath Parker was a insect engineer that had sealed off a set of doors that lead to the next level of the power plant, once they were past that the maps on the walls said it was a straight shot to the control room. However the little insect beneath saw it fit to deny him access to the next level, huddled against the door in a corner Parker set the machine gun to the side and held out his hand. A decent sized durasteel hatchet was placed in his hand and he gave a wicked white smile beneath his bandana.

Inhuman screams rang down the halls, high pitched noises that sounded absolutely horrific. They went on for a few seconds before ceasing and cold silence taking over afterwards. A few digital beeps were pressed and a thick slapping sound of a thermite charge being place on a steel door echoed out.

Alec's stomach turned at the sound. She'd been places and seen things, done things, but she couldn't suppress the physiological reaction. A cold and ugly fury cleared her head as she loaded three shells, special ones stolen from the Fringe: xenoboric acid/transparisteel-splinter fragmentation rounds. Cruel and unusual.

Absolutely sure she was about to put herself in the line of fire, with little more than stripped-down stormtrooper armor between herself and Parker's people, she braced the Bloodstripe's stock in her shoulder and stepped into the hallway.

The recoil almost dislocated her shoulder. A torrent of explosively reactive acid mist and barely-visible splinters filled the corridor. She didn't have the range for sure; he might be farther than the rounds' effective range. She stumbled and crouched, dropping the Bloodstripe.

With the door opened from the thermite charge the men pulled it open and had a clean shot to get to the control room. But that's when the loud bang of the weapon went off and the mist started moving down the hall. All three men turned around and looked at the mist traveling towards them, it was best if they started moving. But Parker wanted to see the effectiveness of the weapon that was being launched at them. As it was traveling down towards them Parker grabbed on of his men by the back of the collar with both of his lanky organic arms and kicked him forward.

"Go be useful!" Parker said with a wild laugh afterwards.

The man plunged forward into the mist and he immediately started to scream. Tearing at his face and body his skin and clothing began to melt until he was nothing but a pile of melted flesh and burnt bones on the ground. Parker tilted his head up and laughed wildly at that, he smiled and turned around with his last man and began to jog down the hall getting out of the range of the cloud.

"Take the machine gun, hold the queen here." James said as they reached a few meters away from the control room doors. Handing over the medium machine gun the man mounted it on his body then started to pour suppressing rounds down the hallway aimed at the woman beyond the opened door.

Parker grabbed his shotgun that was mounted on his back and grabbed another thermal charge. Inside there was a group of scientist and other folks cowering in the corner as the psycho primed the thermite charge over the lock.

"Here's Parker!" the man said as he primed the charge to go off in the next ten seconds.

The automatic weapons fire took a few seconds to start, during which time Alec scrambled back behind the corner. Her Bloodstripe took a ricochet and skidded across the deck, out of her reach. She held out her hand and one of her men filled it with his Bloodstripe. "What've you got loaded?"

"Conc, fire, and anti-blaster aerosol."

"Does that sound like blaster fire to you?"

That machine gun, at full auto, had about fifteen seconds' worth of fire, and it had already been used to kill things. When it clicked empty, Alec leaned around the corner and lobbed a concussion round and an incendiary shot down the hall -- a shockwave of fire. Sprinklers and fire alarms went insane.

The door opened up after the first ten seconds when the charge went off, Parker however didn't bother tapping his man on the shoulder to tell him the door was opened. Instead he simply went inside and closed the door behind him. The door however wasn't going to lock by any means it was essentially just a sliding patio door now. But Parker closed the door behind him and watched as the grenades went off.

"HA!" he said as the first concussion went off followed by the flames.

His man was rocketed back by the force of the blast and the flames didn't really help. The back of his head smashed against the steel of the door and blood ran down it as the fire caught onto his boot. It quickly spread to the rest of his body and the merc stood up screaming as fire engulfed him. The goon banged on the door and window and was met by Parker staring back at him.

"Bye bye birdie!" Parker laughed and whipped his head past the glass leaving his man to burn to death under the fruitless effort the sprinklers were giving to put the man out.

Now inside the control room, Parker cocked his shotgun and looked at the frightened engineers with a smile on his face.

"Let's have a meltdown shall we?!" with another laugh he moved to the control panel and slammed one of the engineers head's down against it with the shotgun flush to his head.

"Set it to blow or I splatter your friends brains over the walls!" and with that the other engineer went to work starting the process to trigger a meltdown.

The air approached solid-mass status. It was, at this point, composed largely of sprinkler rain, human ash, leftover acid mist, vaporized blood, and bitter cordite. Alec pulled up her bandanna for breathing purposes; it didn't do much. She hacked out a cough and snatched up her fallen Bloodstripe in her off hand. Her men dragged her back, away from the roiling air. The fire suppression systems drenched them all to the skin.

"We need masks," she said between ragged breaths. "Masks or we're not getting anywhere. Get back, check the firefight, get masks from the shuttle. Go."

They knew what the order meant; they knew obeying her was a bad idea right now. But they also knew the situation was downright impossible. They did their level best to talk her out of it. Like the bandanna, it didn't do much.

The sprinklers washed the filth from the air as she approached the window, Bloodstripe in hand.

Triggering a meltdown wasn't as hard as it seemed, believe it or not nuclear reactors were very sensitive pieces of machinery. Pushing them beyond unsafe levels of energy output could do it, but then of course you had the failsafes programmed into them to stop occasions like this from happening. But that's why you came prepared, Parker watched as the reactor was pushed beyond safe levels and simply chuckled as they did so. With nonsensical meters reaching red status it was safe to assume that this place was going to go up fairly soon.

"Well it's been fun lads!" with that Parker pulled the trigger against the insect engineers head and splattered the control panel with ichor.

Turning his shotgun on the other engineers he fired on them and the other various control panels until the room was nothing but sparks and green blood. Tossing his shotgun to the side Parker turned and walked towards the door completely oblivious to any threat that was going on outside.

"Zippity do da zippity day, my oh my what a wonderful-" Parker paused as he opened the door to see the woman standing in front of it.

His unarmored and bare chest and arms had a few streaks of water going down it from the sprinklers and he was wide open to an attack.

"Oh hello, their a bit busy in there. But I can take a message." he said with a sick little grin.

Her eyes stayed locked with his, even when she coughed and spat to the side. Behind him, she could see...carnage. Insectoid, but still disturbing. And the machinery that governed the nuclear reactor was a mess. Her radiation deflection badge let out a low tone, and her jaw knotted. Still holding Parker's eyes through the transparisteel, she touched her lapel comm. "Stopwatch to Frozen Heart. Any native lifesigns left in the power station?"

"None."

"Sitrep?"

"Situation managed. We're reading energy flux-"

"They've rigged the reactor to melt down. I was too late." She knew, somehow, that Parker would be reading her lips. Her nostrils flared in fury. "I'm on my way out. Start exfil."

She turned and booked it.
