MANUFACTORING INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Command Relay: Like its less advanced brother, the CD-2G contains a command relay to connect itself to a central control computer. This provided increased coordination and combat strategy, but it also mean's that the destruction of the central control computer required the CD-2G to shut down for a few moments in order to switch to its less advanced droid brain, leaving it helpless if attacked.
STRENGTHS
  • Phrik Alloy: While the basic chassis of the CD-G2 does not differ greatly from the original CD-2 Battle Droid, its weaponry provides a distinct edge in melee combat. While not entirely impervious from lightsabers, the Phrik blade and shield can deflect their blows, making them far more dangerous than basic models.
  • Charge!: One improvement made over the base model CD-2 was an increase in speed, especially regarding reaction time. CD-G2s can often outpace other Confederate droid units and overwhelm normal opponents with raw speed and strength.
  • Redundant Processors: Though it does not make the droid invulnerable, the CD-G2 can sustain serious damage and continue to function. If a lightsaber blade is run straight through the droid's chassis, it can still somewhat continue to fight, even if for a few extra moments.
WEAKNESSES
  • Delay, Not Destroy: While normal organics are likely to die at the hands of the CD-G2, the droid designers were under no illusions that it could stand long against trained force users. In this case, the droid is designed to buy time for the individual it is protecting to escape or bring reinforcements.
  • Just a Flesh Wound: If the CD-G2 loses its arms, it is essentially worthless in combat outside of headlong charges which can be easily avoided.
  • Expensive: With the improvements made (and the limited Confederate budget) the CD-G2 is rather rare, often not being found deployed to the frontlines. Instead, it is reserved as an escort unit for military or government officials, often coming in a pair or a squad of four.
DESCRIPTION
Though well over four thousand years have passed, one thing has remained the same. The Jedi (as well as the Sith) were the most dangerous foes a droid could face. During the Clone Wars, Jedi Generals routinely cut through hundreds, even thousands of droids per battle and there wasn't much standard droid models could do aside from relying on their numbers. While the old Sepertasit Alliance could rely on several varieties of droids especially designed to kill Jedi, the reborn Confederacy was nowhere near as wealthy or resource-rich.

So, the Free Givin Manufactoring Caucus was handed a seemingly impossible task. How could you design a droid that could combat force users effectively on a limited budget and without access to a wide range of materials? Simple, improve on pre-existing designs and hope for the best. With this decision, the base model CD-2 was given several upgrades to improve on individual defects while ensuring the new droid was capable of at least distracting lightsaber-wielding opponents more effectively. To that end, the CD-G2 was created to serve as a specialist unit that could often be found escorting important military, government, and corporate officials. The rationale was that these individuals would be prime targets for attacks led by Jedi, Sith, and various other organizations that employed the force and lightsabers.

The CD-G2, while still being far more expensive than the base CD-2, is merely a stopgap measure for the Confederacy. As more worlds join and its reach grows wider, the Confederacy might be able to create and field more CD-G2 units or even more advanced droids that might replace it. But until then, the new droid will serve the growing Confederacy well.
