Intent: To supply a contract with Firemane for upgraded, secure communications capabilities.
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Corellia Digital
Model: CD-X Series Cryptologic Key
Affiliation: Select Corellia Digital customers only.
Modularity: Highly. As with any computer component, this could be re-purposed by a slicer to function as a decoder, alter the encryption, hack the resident memory, etc.
Production: Mass Produced
Material: Flexiplast (card), Aurodium (circuitry), Agrinium (insulation), memory data crystal
Description: The CD-X is an attachment for vehicle-based comm units or individual comlinks. The device is roughly the size of an average adult human palm, so it is not compatible with smaller comlinks, such as the Hush-98 or most commercial wristlinks. It is intended for use in military-grade systems, such as infantry armor, for secure, protected communications. The CD-X functions as both an encryption module and as a comm unit booster, increasing the range and clarity (fidelity) of transmissions by the host comm unit or comlink. As it has no independent power source or antennae, the CD-X is not a stand-alone comm unit. It has no independent power source, so it is reliant on an external power supply.
• Regular Re-Keyed Encryption. The codes for the keys are altered at irregular intervals through the use of a quantum computer, so any keyed device stolen will only remain functional for a limited time.
• EMP Hardened. Agrinium insulation housing on the card supplies a first line of defense against electro-magnetic interference. This is sufficient to shield against area effects, such as EMP grenades, but will not protect the internal components from a directed energy strike; such as Sith Lightning or a direct hit from an ion blaster.
