BIG Z1776
Baboon with a MAAWS
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The mainstay assault dropship and shuttle of the Crossroads Republic Armed Forces this is the most-visible aircraft that can be seen doing its job in the CRAF's inventory. Often used to transport troops to trouble spots, this craft is designed to take a hit and keep flying, and if it can't keep flying it is designed to withstand impacts that would shred most other dropships in its class. This is partially thanks to its size and heavy hull build as well as its redundant propulsion systems which can assist these ships in at least picking out their landing zones. They do not possess much in the way of armaments, mostly they are capable of doing a quick strafing run to help clear a lightly-guard landing zone or to ward off other dropships that decide to pester it. Its most unique feature is its ability to pick up, secure, move, and then drop off large combat vehicles into a combat zone thanks to its tractor beam and load-locking arms in the ventral side of its tail. Still, the Comet's most beloved feature is its crash survivability, meaning that RPers riding in one can survive most crash-landings, although they may find that they'll have something of a headache when they exit the wreck.

- Four main thrusters providing excellent redundancy in terms of propulsion systems.
- Basic sensor suite and targeting computer.
- Seating for 20 troops in pull-down harnesses and secure mounts for 12 stretchers.
- Tractor beam and load-lifting arms in the stern to pick up vehicles as heavy as a T80-T Main Battle Tank and deploy it straight into battle.
- Inertial dampeners for the entire troop cabin and cockpit.
- Underslung loading cables and hooks.
- Powerful deflector shields protect the craft.
- Hardened armor allows the troops and pilots to survive even a very rough landing and lets the hull mostly survive a crash.
- Advanced command and control networking allows for squadrons to coordinate exact movements and timings and to warn of potential dangers.
- Powerful jammers and countermeasures (flares, EM field generator pods, and chaff to assist in breaking missile locks).
- Very sturdy aircraft, able to survive very harsh impacts and let its passengers walk away from the crash.
- Powerful defensive systems.
- Enhanced communication and control systems allow for rapid information sharing to allow squadrons to evade potential AAA hotspots and plot safe courses even mid-flight.
- Simple construction and modular engines allow for swapping of damaged components quickly and efficiently.
- Not very-well armed, it is no gunship.
- Large target.
- Not particularly fast or maneuverable.
- Rather expensive.
