BIG Z1776
Baboon with a MAAWS
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
A design copied out of desperation by the Crossroads Republic early in its existence the Telgorn Shipyards design have proven to be a very adaptable base platform which has been improved-upon, modernized, and perfected. The reason that they exist on the ground rather than in orbit or in deep space is due to simple military paranoia. The Crossroads Republic Fleet understood that it would not be anywhere near capable of holding off a direct assault by a large fleet making a quick precision strike against its fleet shipyards in space. But when placed on the surface of one of their moons the Crossroads Republic found that, in its wargames, these shipyards were much, much easier to protect with enemy forces being forced to have to break through the powerful shields which surround each and every Crossroads colony. Added to this protection is the fact that Crossroads military shipyard complexes are jealously-guarded by anti-aircraft guns and surface-to-air missiles concentrating their firepower in a much smaller area than they would have to in space. Adding to this is the fact a single shipyard, cut off from the rest of the Republic by a siege, can continue working beneath the protection of an orbital shield and can produce ships that can challenge the besieging enemy fleet or can assist ground forces with superior firepower.
- Intent: Create the primary ground-side shipbuilding apparatus for the Crossroads Republic.
- Image Source: Based on the Telgorn Shipyard
- - Lower solar panels
- + A large domed roof to cover the slipway
- Canon Link: Telgorn Shipyard
- Permissions: N/A
- Primary Source: N/A
- Manufacturer: Crossroads Defense Industries
- Affiliation: Crossroads Republic
- Model: Ground-Side Shipbuilding Slipway
- Modularity: Yes
- Come in Several Sizes: (Length x Width x Height in Meters)
- Class 1: 700 x 700 x 300
- Class 2: 1,400 x 1,400 x 600
- Class 3: 2,400 x 2,400 x 1,200
- Class 4: 6,500 x 4,600 x 1,600
- Come in Several Sizes: (Length x Width x Height in Meters)
- Production: Limited
- Material: Durasteel, Shipbuilding Components, Industrial Components, Tractor Beam Components, Grav Plating, Reactor Components
- A modernized copy of the Telgorn Shipyards.
- The facility is fully capable of independent production of an entire warship's hull by producing modular sections to be moved out of the six production buildings flanking the slipway.
- The roof slides outwards to the sides to allow a ship to ascend and leave the slipway once completed-enough to do so.
- Also able to handle extensive battle damage repair jobs and can handle extensive refits.
- Has large tractor beams on moving rails for transporting large assembled sections into place which are powerful-enough to handle the job with great ease.
- Ships are anchored by tractor beams on the walls for keeping ships/components firmly in place.
- Thanks to a large fusion reactor powering its gravity plating on the floor, zero-gravity conditions can be maintained inside the slipway indefinitely.
- Can independently construct entire ship hulls from prefabricated sections made on site.
- Can protect ship hulls from small-weapons bombardment with its enclosed roof.
- Can disguise activity inside the slipway, hampering enemy intelligence-gathering efforts.
- Cannot construct ship reactors, weapons systems, sensors, thrusters, or hyperdrives, it's an assembly area for hull sections, where components are included in the construction.
- Cannot withstand heavy bombardment if the larger facility shields fail.
- If the grav plates fail the facility and the ship inside can be badly-damaged by subsequent complications.
