SPECIAL FEATURES
The communications systems of each Centaur are kept segregated from the rest of the walker’s system - this is to prevent potential remote control or electronic hijacking orchestrated by slicers. Centaurs can also hold quite a lot in terms of weight, far beyond what can simply be put into the main bay: cargo pods can be magnetically attached to the sides and top of the Centaur for increased carrying capacity. Likewise, other passengers may hitch a ride on a Centaur by holding onto the sides or front. Not that this is ever done when going directly into combat operations, obviously.
To help defend it from attack, the Centaur comes with its own personal shield generator. The shield itself is not anything special and subject to be bypassed by certain types of ordnance or disabled by ion weapons.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
- [Strength] The Centaur is a sturdy vehicle, able to withstand concentrated assault from any angle.
- [Strength] In addition to ferrying troops, the Centaur is also fairly adept at transporting large volumes of cargo, though obviously with reduced space for soldiers.
- [Weakness] Its main weapons are forward mounted. Given that is has rather lackluster maneuverability, the Centaur frequently can’t bring its main weapons to bear against anyone.
- [Weakness] Somewhat slower than other troop transports, the Centaur is a rather tantalizing target for ambushes. It will almost always require an escort.
As the Helix Syndicate takes part in more and more violent operations, the need to procure sufficiently defensible transport for its employees. The Centaur-Class Troop Transport is the result of that need. It is the third and likely final entrant into the Taurus-Series, serving the Syndicate as a heavy transport vehicle for both security personnel and supplies.
Keeping the occupants of the Centaur alive or its cargo intact were the main objectives informing its design. As one can imagine, firepower and mobility took hits to accommodate this desire. The Centaur is not the fastest troop transport, but it moves quickly enough to get the job done and its considerable defenses ensure it will survive well beyond the conclusion of its mission.
Centaurs will almost always require an escort on the battlefield. Their weaponry is token at best and not suited for prolonged engagements. And since its primary weapons are forward mounted, it cannot reliably engage anything that isn’t directly in front of it. Its anti-personnel turret can rotate around, but such is the full extent of its battlefield adaptability.
