- Combat Function: Paladins are notable for being Force Dead, with all the benefits and drawbacks that entails. Their equipment and skillset revolves around being able to take down Force Users without getting killed themselves. Many are trained to use explosives and set up traps to catch a Force User unawares, along with gear designed to incapacitate them. They may use cybernetic enhancements or drugs designed to improve their strength, agility, and reflexes to the point where they nearly match up with a Force User. However, this is not a unit you want to deploy on the battlefield. They work best on the hunt for a single individual or small group of individuals, not facing off against an entire army of Jedi or Sith.
- Your Jedi Tricks Won't Work On Me: Paladins must be Force Dead. Force Users cannot sense their presence, read their minds, influence their thoughts, or interact with them directly using the Force.
- Witchfinder: Paladins are trained to locate and neutralize the threat posed by Force Users to Chaldean society. They employ various methods in order to do this, ranging from taking stimulants to enhance their reflexes, installing cybernetics into their bodies to increase strength, speed, and agility, or plain old manipulation and outsmartment.
- Ordinary: While Force Dead, Paladins are not Force Users and lack all of their powers. There are plenty of ways for a Force-using opponent to defeat them by exploiting this major weakness.
- Mad Dog: The Paladins' use of drugs and cybernetics can pose a problem for their mental state, whether due to addiction, changes in their brain chemistry, or a loss of humanity.
- Bad Reputation: They have a reputation for ruthlessness and may lack even basic empathy for those they hunt. In their eyes, an unlawful Force User on Chaldea is the worst kind of criminal. Paladins have been known to accidentally target Chaldean Mystics.
Paladins have always existed in Chaldean society in one form or another. The Potentium would employ specially trained members to ensure that Force Users on the planet who caused trouble were dealt with. These hunters only became truly organized during the Civil War, an event which saw Chaldea become more militarized out of necessity. It was during this conflict that a special unit called the Paladins was formed.
After the war, the Paladins remained a cohesive force in society, taking on new members for training. They may also be hired as mercenaries and bounty hunters by outsiders and offworlders looking to capture or kill a Force User.
