DESCRIPTION |
The Chandrila-class Star Defender is a representation of peace and prosperity that the Galactic Alliance hopes to achieve through diplomacy and open dialogue rather than sheer destructive might that was common in years prior. Designated under the newer classification of a Star Defender to further distance itself from the history and connotations associated with the term "Star Destroyer". The main focus of the design was the production of a larger Capital Ship that was capable of achieving higher acceleration at both Sublight and Light speeds while at the same time being a more maneuverable craft compared to similarly sized vessels. Though capable of deploying Starfighter Squadrons, its capacity to do so isn't increased, and often it still must rely on additional support provided by Carriers due to its small contingent. Likewise, the installation of additional power sources and engine systems to boost the speed as well as the redesign that was included to bolster its maneuverability has resulted in the removal of weapon systems previously present in the original designs. This has directly impacted its armaments and resulted in a lower rating of these systems, while also just barely passing as a military craft rather than a civilian cruiser. Furthermore, its primary weapon system, and many others for that matter, are limited in their overall firing arc and are known to take time to traverse or rotate into position to fire upon a target that is not directly in front of the weapon; lowering the overall rate of fire of the vessel. However, its true strength lies within the already established speed and maneuverability, as the Chandrila-class Star Defender is often deployed in small groupings alongside equally swift and agile Corvettes and Frigates to produce rapid-response task forces or wolfpacks that excel in rapid hit-and-run guerrilla tactics. Its heavier defenses and its rapid speeds along with its ability to execute maneuvers generally thought impossible with a vessel of its size ensure that the vessel will provide the Defense Force of the Galactic Alliance with a vessel well suited for the coming tribulations and challenges that the Alliance must face. |
