Alex adjusted the large sheet of synth paper taking up the Kryat's share of space on the work table so its corner wasn't blocking the holo projector. Freed of obstruction, the flush emitter once again projected a map of the Bespin system to include the three planets and the asteroid belt known as Velser's Ring. The inner two planets had interested him at one time, but they were likely immense challenges with little reward. Bespin and its Tibanna had long been a mainstay of the company. ORR keeping its main offices in the luxury city of Cloud Nine while the company's processing platforms followed the load winds.
Sun wards was the ring. Recently he'd ordered their only Orca Refinery to take position along its edge. It was currently being serviced by two large mining barges that dove into the ring to mine and fill their vast holds before other ships returned with their plunder. Both operations were well clear of where the second planet would dive through the ring during its haphazard orbit of the sun. Having refineries of their own, the barges didn't need the station, but it was a convenient gathering point and allowed the two ships to work without needing to stop other than for maintenance. Still... Alex looked down at the paper he'd moved, the tips of his spread fingers holding it to the desk top he stood over. On it were plans for new mining vessels that would ply this, and other asteroid belts and keep the refineries at capacity.
There were so many plans to keep track of, new designs, stations to construct, shipyards to grow. Previously Outer Rim Resourced had gotten by on mass production of essential resources and a few exotics like Phrik. The mix of steady but low margin, resources and low production, but high margin, had been safe in the past. Now it left him with something of a rut to fig his company out of. Manufacturing capacity was also something he'd been left wanting more of.
"Terminus and Darkknell," He said to the room. "Those two essential systems will be next. Bespin is low-hanging fruit, easy to pluck, but those two will bring in the cash flow and provide an outlet to sell the Tibanna glut that's about to otherwise hit the local market. Both are also higher population worlds which make them ideal recruiting locations. Those will be our priorities in the short-term while we increase manufacturing capabilities." He liked this plan in its broad strokes. Markets were opened to those who would need to buy what Outer Rim Resources was even now producing in excess and took care of the manpower bottleneck of expansion. Even now Station Six was making the ponderous weeks long journey down the Parlemian Trade Route and the Hydian Way to Darkknell. Hmmm, maybe it could use a new name to go with the new location...
